There are a hundred different ways to share things with your friends, but one that’s definitely worthy of a second look is Discord.

At first, this app was mainly used by videogame players. These days, though, Discord is used by everyone, in no small part because it’s easy to understand, quick to set up, and slick to use.

You can create individual groups (called servers) for different topics, and then separate chat rooms within that server. Once you’re set up, the app makes it easy to share text, audio, photos, and video.

With Discord you can create chat rooms for your gamer pals, work pals, going-out pals, and more.

So, for example, you can create a server for your work colleagues, invite everyone to it, then make separate chats for conference calls, sharing slides, and making sure everyone knows that sandwich in the fridge is yours.

Likewise, you can create servers for your friends: the group that you play videogames with, the group that you play baseball with, and so on.

The app makes it super-easy to switch between any groups you’re in, and shows you where you have new messages. Checking who’s online is a breeze, and sending a private message is as simple as tapping the screen.

Joining a friend’s group is also a cinch, and Discord helps you every step of the way. In fact, there’s never been an app with a less appropriate name.
