I stroll slowly along the street. Above the heads of passers-by, little speech bubbles seem to float. Someone is wondering what to have for lunch. Another recalls the sweet words their child said to them on the way to work. Someone else is thinking of a confession of love they never managed to make, while another quietly marvels at the scenery glimpsed beyond a passing bus. All these countless stories—small, tender moments—become part of the landscape of my life.
I imagine letting my own words drift above my head. Perhaps, The weather’s fine today, or I rather like what I’m wearing, or Just thinking about meeting someone in a few days already gives me a headache… or perhaps a sense of anticipation. They are not of any particular importance to me, nor to anyone around me, yet they are not without some quiet presence—just stories that might become part of the view.

Then, quite suddenly, I might murmur to myself, I feel happy for no reason today, and a passer-by might respond, Hearing that has somehow lifted my spirits too. Before long, what began as our two separate monologues becomes a shared one, as someone else adds their words, until we are all speaking together. And when I realise that I belong, even for a moment, to that small crowd, it makes being alone again far less daunting.

So, even after walking for a long while and returning to the solitude of my room, I do not feel a silence that is empty, but one that is serene. I find myself thinking that, all in all, it has been a rather good day.

Even gazing into a black screen, I feel no gloom at all—for what I felt was true warmth, not some contrivance made of wire and gears, but the company of living, breathing beings.
