Description

EV3 Classroom is the essential companion app for the LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 Core Set (45544). Bringing best-in-class STEM and robotics learning to secondary school pupils, EV3 Classroom enables them to design and code programmable robots to solve complex, real-life problems.

Intuitive interface
EV3 Classroom features a coding language based on Scratch, the most widely used and popular graphical programming language in teaching. The intuitive drag-and-drop coding interface means that pupils can learn to program complex programs in no time.

Engaging material
EV3 Classroom is supported by a comprehensive curriculum of teaching units, including Getting Started, Robot Trainer, Engineering Lab and Space Challenge. With around 25 hours of targeted learning, the EV3 Classroom curriculum teaches pupils the essential 21st century skills they need to compete in today’s technologically infused world, including STEM, Engineering, Computer Science and Robotics.

Building confidence
Lifelong learning starts with confidence, and we’re not just talking about pupils. For many teachers, confidence is an essential part of delivering engaging and inspiring EV3 Classroom lessons. We’ve therefore created a full range of STEM/programming teaching materials and online lesson plans that give teachers everything they need to nail their lessons.

Great App - but it won‘t connect

Some weeks ago I used the spike app with a class - that worked perfectly fine. I was very happy to see that Lego has taken the effort to bring scratch to the lego mindstorms plattform. Right now I am a bit afraid of using it with a class of 20 students, as I can‘t even connect one unit with my Ipad. It always gets into a loop after confirming the connection on the mindstorm itself. The Ipad will show the mindstorm and there will be a button with „connect“. But upon pressing it - no reaction. Another funny thing is, that this unit came with the H firmware instead of the e Firmware intended for education. But perhaps I got something wrong there.

I am trying to solve it by myself. But I am not sure if I will get far.

And yes, bluetooth checked on both devices, and the option ipad and visibility both are crossed. I also did accept the connection message on the mindstorm.

Any suggestions?

Thanks a lot in advance. And it is really great to see Lego adopting the visual coding approch of scratch. I just would be happy to know that I can use it safely with a class of 20 students without having trouble connecting each and every unit.

Kind regards

Update (Same day)

I managed updating the unit with the old ev3 labs software. The new lego educational software simply won‘t find the firmware 1.10E, but you can force the update via the old application. With the result beeing, that the lego mindstorms hub now works fine via bluetooth an usb cable connection (Connection with the computer). But even that way it‘s a 10-90 chance gamble. Sometimes it works - most of the times it refuses to connect or it will show up 2 devices even though bluetooth is disabled and the hub is not connected. Nevertheless - no such success on the ipad. I still get stuck on the same position. Well, I guess I will wait for an update as the app seems to be broken - which is a pitty...

Last update for now: The app will refuse to connect with the following firmwares: .09H; 0.9E; .10E

In simpler terms, the app just won‘t connect, even though the hub registers the connection...

Wired connection to an apple macbook works fine.
