Good for new books, terrible for long-running ones
It‘s a great platform where authors can publish their works, keep in touch with their readers and earn money. Now, i don‘t know how much they get and how big WN‘s share is, but it‘s probably better than just uploading it and hoping that a publisher will pick it up or people will donate smth. There are around 2000 words per chapter. A long book would equal to around 800 chapters i‘d say. The problem is, if i were to purchase 750 chapters (lets say the first 50 are free, most of the time less), it‘ll cost me around 7500 coins. Those 7500 coins translate to 150 USD, which is way too much for the equivalent of a book. My solution; reading the free chapters of long books on WN and the rest on other platforms. I like to support the authors and WN for providing this platform, but i can‘t spend a thousand USD a month on books alone. In my opinion, this is a big error in their business model and will prevent people from reading books with more chapters if they didn‘t start early on.
Mildly happy
I've been using this app for about one month.
I'ts good so far, lots of good novels. Havn't realy looked at the comics so can't say how they are.
If you're a heavy reader or like to binge you'll find it difficult to read certain things thanks to the "spirit stone" requiements for new chapters. This includes some of my favorites on the site which means I'm barely able to read more than two such chapters per day. Smaller novels e.g. fan-fics don't require "ss".
Hope they tone it down in the future but decent app so far.
Disappointing and expensive
Webnovel does have a way of publishing chapters of stories in tiny little pieces you pay for (which in theory is totally okay and fair, because I‘m very willing to pay for my books) but you lose all the beautiful part of reading, the immersiveness and the „staying up late until 2am because you can‘t stop“-part if they release 2 chapters a week only.
The books are very expensive and often updated *very* slowly. Plus, in the case of „Under the oak tree“ - the only reason to install the app for me - they didn‘t keep any promise made about publication timing and content leading to widespread disappointment.
If you‘re looking for an app to cause more frustration than happiness in the long term, here you go.
