A day with Siri
Siri Shortcuts help speed things up, so you can focus on what matters.
Everyone needs a friend they can trust in. Someone to, say, tell you what today’s weather outlook is, take a selfie for you or keep track of how much water you’ve been drinking during the day – did someone say #FriendshipGoals?
Siri really is a multi-talented, trusty friend and with simple shortcuts, you can do all of those things and more, without having to unlock your iPhone or open an app. Try it out for a day; it’s all the time you’ll need to become acquainted with Siri.
1. Find out if it’s an umbrella kind of day with The Weather Channel
Hey Siri, what’s the weather like today?
You’re getting ready for an outing, but what do you wear? What if it gets too warm? What if it rains? Just ask Siri and The Weather Channel will pop up to give you the low-down on the forecast.
You can also record a custom voice phrase like “Weather?” or “What’s the weather like?” and trigger the action with “Hey Siri”.
To set it up: open The Weather Channel app, select the cogwheel icon on the upper-left side of the screen and then choose Location Settings > Siri & Search > Shortcuts > See forecast.

2. When you need a photographer, use DSLR Camera
Hey Siri, take a selfie for me.
Cherish a perfect moment on a perfect date with Siri’s help. Whether you’re walking down the street, having dinner or drinking coffee at a café, ask Siri to capture the moment. No need to unlock your iPhone, look for a photography app, select the front-facing camera or press the shutter: Siri takes care of the lot.
To set it up: open DSLR Camera, select the cogwheel icon on the bottom-right of the screen and then choose ADD TO SIRI > DSLR Selfie.
3. Use a membership widget when you pay
Hey Siri, show me my membership card
We’ve all got a membership card (or a dozen) stuffed in our wallets. They’re a great way to be a savvy shopper, but when you’re fumbling at the checkout for the right one, they can become a pain. Say goodbye to impatient glares from people queuing behind you – say hello to Siri and the Membership widget.
There’s no need to unlock, tap or swipe a thing: ask Siri and you’re ready to scan the barcode. It’s even better when you designate separate shortcut commands for each brand, such as the name of a card.
To set it up: open Membership widget, tap the relevant membership card to see the detailed information page, select the three-dot icon on the upper-right side of the screen and then choose Siri Shortcut – Widget barcode.

4. Track your H2O intake with WaterMinder®
Hey Siri, record one glass of water consumption
Staying hydrated is important and WaterMinder ensures you’re on track with your daily hydration goals. The app shows you the total amount of water you’ve consumed for the day and the amount remaining to fulfil your day’s hydration goals.
Now when you ask Siri, recording your water consumption is even easier.
To set it up: open the WaterMinder app and go to Settings > Siri Shortcuts, then choose from a menu of available shortcuts.
5. Wrap up your day with Day One
Hey Siri, open my diary.
There are myriad benefits to keeping a daily diary: recording things like how you were feeling, who you met or what you accomplished can contribute to a sense of harmony at the end of your day. Try wrapping up the highs and lows with Day One and use a shortcut to access the app with ease.
To set it up: open Day One, select the cogwheel icon at the top-right corner of the screen, then choose Siri Shortcuts > Text.
