Descripción

Two years before the outbreak of WW2, a team of scientists and engineers worked in great secrecy to develop a radar system to detect aircraft approaching the UK coastline. The system was called Chain Home and by providing the vital early warning for Allied fighter pilots ensured the Battle of Britain was won.

In 2016/17 the original radar Transmitter Block at Bawdsey, Suffolk was restored as part of the £1.8m project funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund, Historic England and many other partners and sponsors.

Using photographs of the Grade II* listed building a Virtual Reality world has been created allowing you to tour this top secret place - the world's first operational radar station. As you move around the Transmitter Block in this app you are back in the WW2 era with large electrical cabinets and massive power supplies keeping the radar going 24/7 to defend the UK against relentless air attack.

Today an award-winning museum is open at the Transmitter Block and the public can explore the site and discover the amazing story of radar.
