Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.
• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.
• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 50 people.
• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.
• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.
• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.
• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

For me Signal has been go to messaging app for 7 years
Iron_bolt
Signal messenger is a key part of my messaging network and although it took me 2-3 years to bring most of my contacts to Signal, it is fully worth it. All the key features of mainstream messaging apps are present with no nonsense, no distraction interface serving only one purpose - to communicate in a user friendly way. UI design is kept up to date to look modern so it doesn’t make the user feel behind just because we want not to be tracked, followed or distracted for the purpose of making money to Meta. In the end of 2025, Signal is a viable option for those, who want to partially or fully detach from extremely invasive marketing of big platforms trying to keep you scrolling to make money. With no missing features, you won’t regret giving it a shot.
Reliable, easy and secure

There’s one thing though I don’t like much. The app isn’t present in system share menu. When I want share a photo or some other media, I have to open the app directly which in case of photos requires access to Photo Library which is unnecessary (some apps don’t require it). I believe the team that they don’t do anything malicious and there may be other security implications but I feel that less the app wants/needs to know the better (while still being comfortable to use).
Great apart from sharing photos

I like this app and its philosophy, its easy to use and works well. I just have one thing that mildly bothers me. I have not allowed access to all photos so I choose only those I wish to share on the app. However, the in-app button for selecting more photos to share is in the photo sharing menu at the very end of the list of photos I have already shared. As the amount of photos I have shared is growing, if I want to share a new photo I have to manually scroll the old photos sideways every time to find the button to select a new one :D If the team would consider putting that button on the start of that photo list, I would be very happy ! Thanks!
Overall experience is good but moving between devices is extremely painful
Dadalilik
As the title says. Unfortunately when I moved between devices, the app didn't transfer my data to the new device. I would sum the whole experience in a simple insight. Signal extremely wants you to have your phone number attached to your account. Not only it allows you to have multiple phone devices connected to one account but it also struggles when you just remove your simcard when moving to a new device. In the end I don't feel secure at all because I lost my data and my account is always linked to my phone. Security is a false marketing here.
