Atmospheric, real time adventure
Jordan Mechner (Karateka, Prince of Persia) and his team spent about 4 years making this piece of art come to life - the year was 1997. Now with iOS release you can fully appreciate this timeless classics. This is an adventure game for anyone who likes quality storytelling, rich environment, believable characters, history (pre-WWI), art (Klimt, Mucha,...), music (listen to whole sonata by César Franck) and real time playing on the Orient Express, that does not lead you by hand in static environment, but - on contrary - lets you eavesdrop, sneak to compartments of other passengers, put pieces of information together, confront with characters from all over the world (Russian liberal, German industrialist, Serbian nationalists, more than one spy...) who speak in their native languages (+English subs). No playthrough is the same, because multiple actions happen at the same time on different places of the train. All in Art Nouveau style, rotoscoped animation, combined with 3D photorealistic background. Action sequences (fights) work perfectly within the real time aspect of the game
Played on 1st gen iPad: For a while I played with tutorial and controls on, but then I switched it off, leaving just touch/hold and it felt natural, rarely did I misstap. Walking, collecting items, fighting, all was just fine. Unlocking biographies is great, as well as possibility to replay cinematic sequences. I like the fact there is hint system, similar to UHS, and also orientation in space is eased by blueprint of the train in your inventory etc.
So take this journey from Paris to Constantinople 4 days before World War One and solve this crime/spy/mystery/romance adventure. In video games world The Last Express has, IMHO, no equal in terms of atmosphere, attention to detail, storytelling, playing in real time, not to mention many memorable aspects I omitted.
Great story weaker game play
Never played an adventure like this. However the gameplay si far for perfect, missing a logic in steps causing running around from time to time. Interactions are fabulous. Atmospeher is great. The orientation in the train is a bit confusing.
Super hra, skvělá atmosfera..
Tohle opravdu nema chybu. Stojí za to si zahrát .. Kdo zna z PC, ví o čem je řeč... Za mně i 6 hvězd :-)
