Vinegar is a Safari extension that replaces the YouTube player with a minimal HTML video tag.

It removes ads, restores picture-in-picture, and keeps videos playing in the background.

Note: The "can read information from webpages" text in the permission section is just unfortunate wording. Vinegar needs access to the web page to find the YouTube player and replace it. It's not doing anything creepy!

(By the way, check out Vinegar's companion app, Baking Soda. It's basically a less powerful version of Vinegar, but it works on all websites other than YouTube.)

nice but

when I play a video at 2160p and switch the audio output to homepod, the video changes to 720p and that's the maximum I can do. when I turn off the output on the homepod, it allows me 2160p again

The higher-quality videos are not mp4 videos, so they're not AirPlay-able 😓

Perfection

I absolutely love this safari extension. I was using a free one before and it was quite buggy sometimes, but yours works perfectly for what I need it to do. The best thing about it is that there is no subscription fee, feels like the old times of App store. :)

Great extension

It's awesome! Only issue I have is that it cannot be controlled by left and right arrows (on Mac).
