EWA English Language Learning

Learn Spanish, German, French

Learning a language can be a bit dry: poring over grammar rules, reciting vocabulary, working on syntax... next thing you know you’re napping on your desk. EWA shakes things up with a learning journey that includes watching clips from films and TV shows, playing games and reading or listening to books. Get ready to flex your conversational skills with the help of Homer Simpson and get to grips with phrasal verbs with Thor.

What we love: Discovering that our favourite TV and film characters are also awesome language teachers. It’s fun to see popular onscreen characters in the app’s short video clips; and while you may have seen some of these scenes before, this time they’re teaching you important basics such as proper punctuation and more advanced grammar like possessive pronouns.

Quick tip: In between video courses and reading or listening to books, change things up by playing the app’s educational games. They’re easy enough that you can enjoy them, while informative enough to consolidate your learning. Choose to compete against real players in Duelling, where you’ll have to select the correct translations to win, or play solo in Wordcraft, where you’ll search for hidden words to boost your vocabulary.

Meet the creator: Max Korneev came up with the idea for EWA after finding that the only effective way he could learn English was by watching films and reading books in the language. He and his team have also created EWA Kids, which features cartoons, books and educational games for a fun learning experience for children.
