Bester Client für PGP-User
Canary ist eine der einzigen iOS-E-Mail-Apps, die die Verschlüsselung von Nachrichten mit PGP unterstützt. Schon allein deswegen verdient die App großes Lob. Glücklicherweise bietet die App auch ansonsten ein sehr gutes Feature-Set, schickes Design und viele Möglichkeiten die Darstellung und die Bedienung anzupassen. Deshalb ist Canary mittlerweile meine Standard-App für geschäftliche E-Mails auf iPhone, iPad und Mac. Nur die Suchfunktion müsste weiter optimiert werden. Vor allem ältere Mails findet die Suche oft nicht. Oder sie findet Anhänge, lässt mich aber die zugehörige Mail nicht öffnen. Wenn hier noch nachgelegt wird, hat die App ihre 5 Sterne voll und ganz verdient. Der Preis der App ist angesichts der PGP-Unterstützung mehr als fair.
An sich eine gute Idee
Die App bietet die Möglichkeit ausgehende Mails zu verschlüsseln. Es gibt auch eine Reihe von Sicherheitsfeatures in den Einstellungen. Allerdings sind die Einstellungen sehr unübersichtlich. Hier wäre eine bessere Gruppierung und / oder eine Suchmöglichkeit empfehlenswert.
Update:
Laut Entwickler ist kein Doppelkauf erforderlich - d.h. wenn die App gekauft wurde ist ein zusätzlicher inApp Kauf nicht erforderlich. Nur diejenigen welche die App umsonst geladen haben, müssen per inApp Kauf die App kaufen.
Wenn dem so ist, dann ist das aus meiner Sicht ok.

Hi, we must clarify there is no in-app purchase necessary if you've already paid full price to download. The total price is hence 10.99 EUR in Germany, not 20 EUR.
Optisch sehr schön aber Anti-Privacy
Canary hat auf mich zunächst einen sehr guten Eindruck gemacht. Optisch ansprechend und modern gestaltet. Leider musste ich feststellen, dass an verschiedenen Stellen betont wird, dass man die Privatsphäre schützen will. Das gilt aber leider nicht für die eigentlichen Mailfunktionen. Ich mag es nicht, wenn mir Firmen unsichtbare, personalisierte Pixel in Mails einbauen, um festzustellen, ob die Adresse gültig ist oder die Mail gelesen wurde. Da kann ich natürlich schlecht ein Programm verwenden, das genau diese Funktion anbietet. Weiters kann man zwar das Nachladen von gelöschten Inhalten bei (empfangenen) Mails abschalten. Standardmäßig ist das bei Canary aber eingeschaltet. Ist ja auch logisch, man will ja seine eigene Lesebestätigungsfunktion nicht torpedieren. Außerdem wird leider immer eine HTML-Version der Nachricht mitgeschickt. Auch wenn keine Textformatierungen vorgenommen wurden. Ich bin ein Fan von Plan-Text E-Mails. Alles andere ist nicht standardkonform. Jedenfalls habe ich die Anwendung jetzt wieder gelöscht. Schade, denn ansonsten ist sie konzeptionell sehr gelungen.
