Description
Data Jar is a data store designed to be used with Shortcuts. The data store lets you persist key-value pairs.
If you have used dictionaries and lists in Shortcuts, then you’ll find that the data format used by Data Jar is very similar.
- Extensive support for Shortcuts, enabling you to read and update data directly form Shortcuts.
- Store text, numbers, booleans, lists, dictionaries and even files.
- Files are stored in iCloud Drive.
- Synchronisation between devices using iCloud.
Data Jar is free to use but contains a tip jar where users can pay a few bucks to support the developer.
What’s New
Version 1.1.4
- Improves the stability of Shortcuts actions.
- Disables auto-capitalization and auto-correction when entering a text value.

besser geht es nicht
genau das hat in shortcuts gefehlt und sogar das design ist toll 👌
Must have app with nasty bug which can result in data lost
Short summary: great app, 6/5 stars worth. But some bug can lead to a complete data lost, therefor only 4/5 stars.
Long story:
I stumbled upon Data Jar on reddit, cool solution for data storage for shortcuts. As first project I wanted to migrate an existing shortcut which currently uses a Bear Note for storage. Before migrating the main shortcut I created a shortcut for data migration, which runs into problems within Data Jar.
The data consists of a Bear note with >300 lines, esch line a json dictionary with 4 keys. The shortcut queries the note, splits the data by newlines and sets the DataJar value to the splitted list. Works fine, but DataJar shows the values for a short time and then loses it completely. It seems to be a sync problem, as the bug only manifests with some amount of data. Smaller tasks produce no problem.
Sad thing about the bug: I wrote an e-mail to support, no reaction.
There’s only one thing how this could become even more awesome:
If it would also provide means to work with SQLite databases, e.g. instead of writing into JSON containers or even text files, let me issue an INSERT statement on a database file. Then let me SELECT data, CREATE VIEWs, etc. The database files itself could/should be accessible via iCloud for easy backup or external manipulation.
