The #1 Blog Editor for the Mac!

MarsEdit is the best way to write, preview, and publish your blog.

Free to download! Unlock a free trial in the app, purchase a full license, or continue to use the app for free to maintain an archive on your Mac and work locally with your published blog posts. MarsEdit 5 can be unlocked at a discounted upgrade price by users who previously unlocked MarsEdit 4.

- Works with WordPress, Micro.blog, Tumblr, TypePad, Movable Type and dozens of other systems that support standard MetaWeblog and AtomPub interfaces.

- Write when and where you want to, with or without an internet connection. Fine-tune your next post on the boat, plane, or train, and publish it when you're back online.

- Browse your Apple Photos, drag images directly, or insert images into your blog post with the click of a button. MarsEdit uploads them all when you're ready to publish.

- Avoid common browser-based problems like losing your edits by navigating to another page, poor spelling for lack of a spell checker, etc.

- Perfect for professional bloggers and casual writers who don't want to mess around with clunky web-based interfaces. If you're lucky enough to have a Mac, nothing is more powerful or more elegant than MarsEdit.

- Write in Rich Text "WYSIWYG" that will be converted automatically to HTML when you publish, or hand-tune the HTML in a syntax-highlighted code editor. Markdown fan? Write in Markdown in the HTML editor and see a live-preview of the HTML rendering in the preview window.

- Compatible with macOS 10.15.4 or higher.

Coming to the Mac from Windows? MarsEdit is similar to Live Writer, the popular Windows blog editor, but differs in some ways. Ask around and read MarsEdit reviews to decide if MarsEdit is right for you.

Neuheiten

Version 5.2.3

This update fixes a problem that prevented Photos from loading in the MarsEdit Media Manager.

5.2.2 changes:

- Fix a bug that prevented the previously selected blog from being re-selected after launch
- Fix the typography of apostrophes and quotation marks in several areas of the app
- Prevent a system warning about the app "modifying other apps" when it tries to update itself
- Improve performance when loading drafts from disk

5.2.1 changes:

- A bug in MarsEdit 5.2 that caused some preview content to be rendered inaccurately
- A bug where the status bar in Duplicate posts wrongly claimed they were "Editing Published Post"

5.2 changes:

* Search & Find Improvements

The "Search" field in the main window now features a filter selection to toggle between searching everything or searching just the current selection.

Inline "Find" support is now available in the rendered versions of posts in the Preview Window or Main Window.

* Micropost Panel

New defaults are available under Settings -> Blogs -> Publishing to specify which Categories, Tags, and Post Kind should be used when publishing with the Micropost panel.

* Web Preview Performance

The live Web Preview is now even more performant, using an approach wherein only the modified portion of a post is updated in the preview as you type. Additionally, posts with embedded scripts should now have the scripts run as part of the preview process.

* Duplicate Posts

A new menu item for duplicating posts makes it easy to create an all-new post starting with the content of an exiting draft or post. The new post is stripped of any relationship to the original so that publishing it to the same blog, for example, will not update the original post.

The ability to duplicate posts may serve as an aid on blogs where posts repeatedly follow the same pattern or template. You might, for example, keep a Local Draft "starting point" and use that to create duplicates which are then fleshed out and published.

* Options Side Panel

The Options side panel has been revised so that the section titled "Server Options" is now named "Publication" and presented at the top of the side panel. This section now features a new inline editor for the publication date of a post, and an icon to quickly bring up the interactive calendar-based date selector.

* And More…

This update includes a number of other little improvements and bug fixes. Here is the complete list of changes:

- Search now supports searching all blogs or just the selected blog

- New per-blog default settings for Micropost categories, tags, and post format

- Added "Duplicate Post" menu item to create a new post with the same content as an existing post

- Revised design of the Options side panel, renaming "Server Options" to "Publication"

- Smarter preview updating for higher performance and less reloading of embedded content like movies

- Web preview runs embedded script nodes in blog post content to support various dynamically updated elements

- Can now use "Find" to search post content displayed in the main window or preview window

- Added published date to the Options side panel

- Alt Text field in Upload Utility and Media Manager now grows vertically to accommodate longer descriptions

- Double-clicking a date in the calendar date picker now selects and dismisses the panel

- Fix a bug that caused Micro.blog blogs to download more posts than specified in settings

- Forbidden characters are now stripped from XML data when parsing a server response fails

- Fix a bug introduced in 5.1.4 that caused "offset" parameters to be encoded as boolean in XMLRPC

- Fix a cosmetic issue in the Software Updater when switching from light to dark mode

- Fix a bug where dragging an image to the end of a line in the plain text editor would drop it on the following line

If you have a minute, please leave a rating or review in the App Store. It means a lot.

Außerdem bietet MarsEdit so viele Möglichkeiten an Personalisierung. Hier wird sowohl der HTML-Frickler als auch der Content-Manager glücklich!

Eine super native Mac App bei welcher man wieder weiß wieso man einen Apple Macintosh benutzt!

Danke!!!

The most awesome blogging tool on the Mac got even better

I've been a MarsEdit user since the version 3 days, have written countless blog posts with it, and still love it to this day. I just upgraded from version 4, and it has become even more awesome. And the most important for me as a blind user: Full VoiceOver compatibility has been maintained. It is fully accessible. And it is an example of how a native Mac app truly shines over the browser competition, including the blog tool's native editors.

One wish: Support for the WriteFreely platform and related ActivityPub enabled software. But that doesn't prevent me from giving it 5 stars. 😉

pop up

pop up which informs about purchasing says 59$(Dollar), but if you want to buy, App-Store wants 69€uro. ehhhh, no - but thanks!

UPDATE:
But you can control, what is written in the pop up, right?
To spread fair information, you could write, that price may differ in app-stores and/or that this price can only be granted by buying it directly on your red-sweater-website.
But your reply makes me believe that 4 stars is more fair to the reputation of your software itself. The last star will be given, if and when price-information is more transparent.
Peace and cheers !!

Entwickler-Antwort ,

Hi Mike - thanks for giving MarsEdit a look. I think you will find that the discrepancy between US-based apps and Euro is the same for all apps in the store. I have to set a "price tier" and Apple adapts that to prices around the world. When they get out of wack occasionally they change the exchange value, but app developers don't have control over that. I hope you'll reconsider your 1-star rating since this isn't something I directly control, and your rating will hurt the reputation of my app. Thanks again for giving it a try, Daniel
