Murasaki is an EPUB reader application that has simple user interfaces and various features (CANNOT open DRM-encrypted EPUBs)
Key Features:
* Scrolling
Murasaki is a scroll-based reader like usual web browers, not a page flip-based reader like iBooks.
* Pagination View Mode (horizontal writing mode only)
Murasaki supports the pagination view mode. This is a hybrid view mode which has both a free scrolling and a snapping to column (horizontal writing mode only).
* Swipe Navigation
Murasaki supports two-finger swipe gesture to move between contents (Mac OS X 10.7+). To read through an EPUB, use scroll and swipe gestures on trackpad.
* Multi Windows
Murasaki can open different EPUBs in multiple windows. Moreover Murasaki can open different parts of one EPUB in multiple windows at once.
* Popover
By opening a link in a popover, you can check a related page, footnote, and so on quickly without moving page (Mac OS X 10.7+).
* Image Panel
By opening images in panels, you can read through text with reference to these images.
* Searching
You can search a word that is contained in a EPUB.
* Bookmarking
You can bookmark, and can refer these pages later.
* Full Screen
By entering full screen mode, you can view the EPUB contents in full screen (Mac OS X 10.7+).
* User Style Sheet
Murasaki can apply user style sheets.
* Popover Dictionary
You can look up a word in popover dictionary.
* Spotlight/Quick Look plug-ins
You can Spotlight-search and preview EPUBs.

Einfach einfach :)
Murasaki ist ein einfacher Viewer für ePub Dateien ohne Schnickschnack.
Keinerlei Bibliotheks- oder Konvertierungsfunktionen wie Calibre und Konsorten.
Es zeigt einfach nur ePub Dateien an, und das wirklich sehr nett, speziell im Vollbildmodus mit zwei Spalten macht das Lesen richtig Spass.
Auch sehr schick - es ist ebenfalls ein Quicklook und Spotlight Plug-in dabei.
Genau was ich gesucht habe - ein einfacher guter Viewer! :)
Eigentlich eine 5-Sterne App… Den 5ten Stern gibt’s für die deutsche Version und/oder wenn der Preis noch einen Ticken nach unten korrigiert wird - es gibt ja schliesslich genug Konkurrenzprodukte mit ähnlicher Funktionalität für deutlich weniger oder gar kein Geld, und auch die Plug-ins gibt’s anderweitig gratis...
Plugins are working again!
I use Murasaki as default app for ePub files. It's not the best app to read a whole novel. But it's perfect for a quick read or a quick preview or a quick search. It's light-weight, without any library management or cloud services attached to it, that slow so many other ePub readers down.
When I bought it a few years ago, I was annoyed that the plugins didn't work anymore. It was still possible to open files, but I had paid for the plugins. Since the December 2021 version they seem to work again. Now I'm happy, thanks!
Big Sur? Broken!
Murasaki was my favorite epub reader for years - it's slim and fast and extremely stable.
Unfortunately, it seems to be broken under macOS Big Sur - outlines, structure, endless scrolling, pictures - it's all not working anymorey.
If the developer doesn't like to update it, it'd be great to make Murasaki open source.
