Practice and test yourself in a fun and fast way and become a master in the classical languages, Ancient Latin and Greek. Time to amaze yourself, friends and family with your new skills. Let’s go!

Currently available languages

Perdisco uses a smart algorithm based on the ‘forgetting curve’, which hypothesizes the decline of memory retention in time. When you make a mistake, the training tool repeats the question at the right time until you remember.

The gamification elements within Perdisco, like positive feedback, keep you motivated and improve your skills in a playful manner.

Perdisco is a digital tool and platform to help you perform better in both subjects. Perdisco is co-developed by a teacher of Ancient Latin & Greek with a MA degree. The tests and exercises are checked, accurate and consist of the necessary learning material used by most schools. Perdisco is divided into three main topics: translation, grammar and culture. All three are essential for learning Ancient Latin and Greek.

Perdisco is fast and responsive. Our software developer with a MSc degree takes great care in continuously optimizing Perdisco’s technology. Therefore, Perdisco runs fast and efficient with little to almost no storage required. In addition Perdisco is able to run on your device without using the internet. So you can learn Ancient Latin and Greek wherever you are.

Great app + some ideas

The app is free and that is very much appreciated. However, I have some ideas 💡 for nice features:

• As I am a German, I would welcome a translation m🇩🇪
• A tutorial on how to properly use the app
• Although the ancient languages aren’t spoken anymore, audio-clips for pronunciation would help with memorising words

Good, but contains non-existing Latin forms

PERDISCO offers very useful exercises and interactive quizzes focussing on vocabulay (Latin-English, Latin-Dutch), conjugation, declension, historical dates and facts, Roman numerals, and a whole test series by which you can consolidate what you’ve learned so far.

However, the app creates non-existing Latin word forms (October 2022), especially of some verbs that have no passive voice or just an impersonal passive in the 3rd person singular:

- solere, soleo, solitus sum “to be accoustomed to do” (semi-deponent): the app wants you to conjugate non-existing passive forms in the present stem like *soleor, *soleris, *soletur, *solemur, *solemini, *solentur;

- parere, pareo, parui, paritum (supine) “to appear, to obey”: PERDISCO wants you to form the future perfect of this verb in the passive voice for all six persons like *paritus ero/eris/erit, *pariti erimus/eritis/erunt, although it is only possible to form an impersonal passive in the 3rd person singular - paritum erit;

- like all Latin infinitives, the perfect passive infinitive in its standard form is neuter, e.g. vocatum esse (not *vocatus esse); this form only changes in a sentence containing an accusative with infinitive (vocatum/-am/-um esse, vocatos/-as/-a esse) or a nominative with infinitive (vocatus/-a/-um esse, vocati/-ae/-a esse), so *vocatus esse is just a possible variant appearing under certain circumstances;

- latere, lateo, latui “to conceal, to hide, to lie hidden” has no supine stem and no passive, but PERDISCO wants you to create a non-existing perfect passive infinitive *latitus esse;

Additionally, the app contains a few incorrect word forms which I consider to be typos:
- *tenitus = tentus (perfect participle of tenere, teneo, tenui, tentum)
- *facinoria, *facinorium = facinora, facinorum (nom./acc. pl., gen. pl. of facinus, facinoris n., 3rd declension, no i-stem)

I only checked the Latin section, and the things I pointed out above are just some mistakes I notice here and there. Maybe there are more, maybe there aren’t. But I invite the creator(s) of PERDISCO to make an update of this very useful app, so that absolute beginners don’t learn and create forms that simply don’t exist. Thank you.
