Description
Protect yourself and the environment against chemicals of very high concern! You have the right to obtain information about the presence of such substances in products such as toys, sports articles, furniture, electrical appliances, or clothes. Substances of very high concern (SVHCs) are chemicals which are carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic for reproduction, or particularly harmful to the environment. With Scan4Chem you can use the barcode of a product to obtain information about any SVHCs it contains.
This means you can learn about and avoid products containing substances of very high concern. With your enquiry, you signal to companies that you do not want to use such products. The legislators have created a right to request information. Make use of it!
Product suppliers can enter their information in a database that is associated with the app, so that the information is available to the app users at any time. If no information is contained in the database, the app helps to generate and transmit your request. The more requests app-users submit then the more entries product suppliers will make in the database. You can help to make the app better, so that it will be used more and more! You are not alone: the app is already available in 15 European countries, and will grow to cover all of Europe!
Background:
The European Union REACH regulation specifies that consumers have a right to request information about substances of very high concern in products. If you make such a request, the supplier is obliged to inform you about any such substances contained at a concentration above 0.1% by weight. The product suppliers bear sole responsibility for the response and its correctness.
The right to know applies for “articles”, i.e. for most products and packaging, but not for food or certain products such as cosmetics, cleaning products, or surface coatings which are covered by their own special regulations. If a product is made up of various parts, such as a bicycle, then the supplier must provide information about all the individual components (e.g. handlebar grips).

Deutsche App auf englischem Telefon?
Hallo Unweltbundesamt, ich habe aus beruflichen Gründen ein englischsprachiges iPhone. Solche Apps schalte ich in den Einstellungen normalerweise auf Deutsch um. Hier wird mir aber nur Englisch, Polnisch und Dänisch angeboten. Das ist ein bisschen schräg.

Bei anderen Apps kann ich in Einstellungen dann auf die Einstellungen der App gehen und die Sprache wechseln. Das geht auch bei Ihrer App. Also:
Einstellungen —> Scan4Chem —> Languages
Aber DORT wird kein Deutsch, sondern nur Englisch, Dänisch und Polnisch angeboten. Andere auf Deutsch verfügbare Apps bieten hier auch Deutsch an.

Welche App Sie angeboten bekommen hängt zunächst davon ab mit welchem Land Sie im Store Account angemeldet sind. Laden Sie eine App herunter und geben Sie in der App Ihr Wohnsitzland an! Wenn Sie dort DE angeben, sollte Ihnen die deutsche App angezeigt werden, es sei denn Sie haben in den Phone Settings eine andere Sprache. Ihr Scan4Chem Team

Sehr gute Idee und gelungene Umsetzung.
Gute Idee, deutlich ausbaufähig
Ich bin über einen Social Media Beitrag auf die App aufmerksam geworden und finde die Idee super. Natürlich braucht so eine Datenbank Zeit und Mithilfe sie zu füllen. Dennoch finde ich es sehr schade das es kaum Standard Produkte zu finden sind. Bei der Suche nach „Zahnbürsten“ habe ich z.B. keinen einzigen Eintrag gefunden. Somit stellt sich mir die Sinnhaftigkeit dieser App und ein Praxisbezug. Wie ist die Anwendung dieser App gedacht, bzw. welchen Mehrwert soll sie mir dann in meinem Leben geben.
Auch finde ich es sehr schade, das es keine Übersicht über die Produkte gibt die schon erfasst worden sind. Das wäre meines Erachtens nach eine gute Möglichkeit zwischen verschiedenen Produkten zu stöbern und sich das Schadstofffreieste für den täglichen Gebrauch zu suchen.

Vielen Dank für Ihre Rückmeldung! Sie haben Recht, in der Datenbank sind bislang noch nicht viele Informationen zu finden. Je mehr Anfragen an die Hersteller gestellt werden, desto größer wird der Druck, dass diese die Informationen freiwillig in die Datenbank einstellen, statt jede Anfrage einzeln zu beantworten. Ziel ist ein unmittelbarer Erhalt der Informationen aus der Datenbank, direkt nach dem Absenden Ihrer Anfrage, um beispielsweise im Geschäft bereits Ihre Kaufentscheidung davon abhängig machen zu können.
