Looks nice, but too expensive

The widget display is very clear, but for an app that is basically a interface to existing weather data sources, which also have widgets, this subscription is much too expensive for me.

Totally understand if $40 per year isn’t a good tradeoff for you personally, but just so you understand… weather data is NOT cheap. We’ve actually been losing money on the 2.x version of the app for over a year now.

Mapping data is the most expensive thing to provide, which is why a lot of weather apps kind of hide it. Every time you launch Weather Up it opens right to a weather map showing radar (or other mapping layers depending on your settings).

Widgets and complications use a lot of data as well. And with Weather Up you can actually put 3 different forecast sources on the same Home Screen. So every time you swipe over we're paying 3X for that data. Every time you lift your wrist and the Apple Watch complication updates, we're paying for that data. And on and on.

Hope that helps explain why we’re charging what we charge (and have to charge via subscription).

Less useful outside the US

Came for the nice one hour forecast, which doesn’t seem to be available outside the US

Entwickler-Antwort ,

While Apple Weather doesn't provide the next-hour rain forecast outside the US, Australia, Ireland, and the UK, Accuweather does support Germany and most other countries.

You can switch the default weather forecast source in Settings within the app, or you can tap and hold on the widget to set it for each widget independently.
