Wikipedia has been answering our big and small questions since its introduction in 2001. What if you only speak Hawaiian? Mai hopohopo! Hauʻoli! (Don’t worry! Be happy!) With information in nearly 300 Wikipedia-supported languages, you’ll be able to find facts in the lingo you like.
Gut
Gut gemachte App, die Wikipedia-Inhalte wesentlich besser darstellt als viele andere Apps (insb. Tabellen und Infotafeln). Der Funktionsumfang ist gut: Wechsel der Sprachversion, Anzeigeumstellung, zufällige Artikel, meistgelesene Artikel, Artikel zu Objekten in der Nähe, inkl. Kartenansicht. Selbst Editieren ist möglich (die Wikipedia ist ein Mitmachprojekt, das wird mittlerweile leider häufig vergessen).
Verbesserungswürdig ist die Startzeit, hier vergehen einige Sekunden auf einem iPhone 6s. Wikipanion als Konkurrent bietet deutlich weniger Features und eine schlechtere Ausgabe, bei schlechter Verbindung kommt man aber deutlich schneller zum Text als mit dieser offiziellen App.
Für Wikipedianer furchtbar
Die App mag nett sein für Leser, aber für Autoren ist sie leider furchtbar. Wieso werden in der Funktionsleiste im Bearbeitungsmodus z.B. selbst grundlegende Funktionen wie das Einfügen von Weblinks und Belegen nicht unterstützt? Und sogar Copy/Paste von Text ist ein nervenaufreibender Kraftakt. Gleichzeitig lädt die App beim Multitasking (Wechseln zwischen Apps) oft neu, sodass Änderungen verloren gehen.
Was mich außerdem als Leser stört ist, dass viele Funktionen der Desktop-Version in der App (und auch in der mobilen Version) nicht funktionieren: So wird man z.B. bei vielen (auch internen) Links auf den Browser weitergeleitet und kann Listen in Artikeln nicht sortieren. Außerdem würde ich gerne in der Startansicht die normale Wikipedia-Hauptseite sehen. Zuletzt ist es extrem nervig, dass man sich erst über den „Zurück“-Button durch alle zuletzt angesehenen Seiten klicken muss, bis man wieder zur Startseite kommt, um bspw. die Einstellungen zu ändern oder seinen Artikel-Verlauf sehen zu können.
