Great algorithms & calculations vs. CPU
This chess game has a simple interface and quick to get started.
You can set the difficulty level, though on the harder settings, the iPhone takes longer to make a move.
The algorithms are particularly good, once the CPU is beaten it seems to remember what pieces you defeated it with and compensates.
The CPU really wants to defend its pawns at what seems at quite a cost to its overall strategy of getting at your king.
At times once you’ve got a good defence set up with your pawns, the CPU will just diddle-daddle with its rooks and other pieces, waiting for you to “break the barrier” and attack first.
Classical music plays in the background, unfortunately its the same song over and over. I’d wish they add more different classical music. (You can mute out the music if its bothersome)
I’d wish for more options in the menu. Such as piece-priority of what the CPU would deem defensible or losable.
The CPU will almost all the time have no quarries in exchanging its Knight for your Bishop.
Advanced move combinations are already inherent at medium difficulty settings, such as forcing you to line up a piece between your king and its attacking piece, thus blocking you from using that piece.
I think its the best chess app available and the paid version removes the unobtrusive ad banner, so theres not much to gain in paying.
All in all though, its quick, fun and frustrating, 5 stars definitely.
Mostly excellent
But it really needs to fit iPad screens better.
If you only want to use this on a phone, it’s a solid 5 stars.
