Description

* "Without doubt the most powerful and genuinely useful percussion app on the App Store right now" Computer Music
* Reached the #1 paid music app in 5 countries
* SonicTouch (www.sonicstate.com) gold award

Impaktor is a drum synthesizer with a vast sonic palette, that turns any surface into a playable percussion instrument.

You just slap your desk like you would a real drum. The real acoustical impulses from the built-in microphone are used as an excitation source for advanced sound modules that simulates behavior of membranes, cymbals, metallophones or strings. This makes Impaktor a highly responsive and expressive instrument.

With semi-modular architecture and several types of synthesis, Impaktor can produce a wide range of tones, from acoustic, like Tabla, Djembe, Marimba, Cymbals, Metal bars to electronic or industrial sounds.

Enjoy the most realistic virtual drumming experience available for mobile devices!

* The app requires headphones to prevent accoustic feedback. To minimize latency use wired models.

Midi export please

App works well and as advertised. I would love an update to be able to export midi to my DAW.
Good job.

A new dimension in the iOS drum world

This drum machine utilises the physical world, your desk eg, in a way I've never seen before, and it does it well! The mic in the iPad Pro apparently receives very high res audio, or maybe the code deserves the price? In any case you can vary the sound in very detailed and precise manner with your fingertip (given you wear headphones). It feels natural to drum on the table, like I always do when listening to music, and no danger of breaking the iPad screen.

I'm pretty new in music making, but I know a bit about synthesis, however I think everyone with the curiosity could quickly learn how to treat the knobs (there's also a manual that can be useful, if you understand the terms). The many preset sounds are really nice, high quality and diverse, and you can make each of them sound like anything by manipulating them! Remember to press the orange "target" button to the left, hat lets you adjust wich and how much various values are affected by the microphone input – how hard you hit – so the pitch can be altered, or the sound can get distorted when you hit hard.

The file system is also pretty useful once you get used to it, you can save both sounds (in folders), sessions with sound bank and recordings (that to my slight annoyance autosave) as well as live recordings that can be exported. One aspect that I dislike is the lack of export options; I use Beatmaker 3, which supports most methods, but the only way I've found to send sounds from Impaktor to Bm3 is through an email to myself with a wav file. Why not just use the iOS standard share function like you see in other drum machines?

All in all I love this drum machine, it's some of the best value for money I've had. If you want to make some very personal, atmospheric and lively beats, do buy this piece of software!

Bonus tip: I have a leather case on my iPad, and taking it off made the sound significantly more quiet and harder. Having the iPad in the case on a hard desk, which I drum on with my fingers, gives a great result for me. So I can recommend experimenting with different materials.
