Editors’ Notes

Beautiful, stirring, inspired—words barely do justice to Lee-Kuo Chen’s surprisingly abstract take on martial-arts swordplay. Your finger becomes the blade as you learn the pattern and timing of various moves, and then battle foes whose blades (like yours) are represented by ink-painted lines. The overarching tale of a famed swordmaster sucks you in, and even at its trickiest, the swipe-based action always feels rewarding.

Nice premise, confusing execution

Swords looks nice and starts with a moody introduction to the setting. The first gametype is engaging and hard, but feels rewarding. Immediately, you are introduced to a new sword and a new gameplay variant, and the elegance of the initial game begins to fade. After three new variants you begin to get bored. This game was just featured for its unique style, but lacks a lasting appeal - a hard flaw on part of Apples rushing app store front. The price does not refflect the entertainment value.
