Still a masterpiece
Revisit the immersive world of Myst.
realMyst: Masterpiece Edition
Whether you played Myst when it debuted in the early ’90s or are experiencing this groundbreaking adventure puzzler for the first time, realMyst: Masterpiece Edition is a welcome return to the game that redefined a genre forever.
Thanks to beautiful pre-rendered graphics, a haunting soundtrack, an absence of violence, and, of course, clever puzzles, the original Myst appealed to seasoned players and non-gamers alike. realMyst: Masterpiece Edition meticulously reconstructs that world using a real-time 3D engine for dramatically improved modelling, textures and dynamic lighting effects.
The game’s foundation remains the same: a magical book transports you to a mysterious island, which you explore to uncover clues about the fate of the book’s creator, Atrus, and his sons, Sirrus and Achenar.
But while the original Myst confined you to largely static predrawn sets, you can now explore with full freedom. Details like changing weather conditions, rippling water and gently swaying trees and grass, as well as enhanced audio, make the experience more immersive than ever.
Breathtaking visuals aside, the main draw of realMyst is still its ingenious puzzles – some simple, some maddeningly challenging. (A graduated hint system is there to help if you get stuck.) For those who still remember all five original worlds inside and out, realMyst offers a bonus Age, called Rime, to explore.
And when you’re feeling nostalgic, or just want a taste of old-school gaming, realMyst: Masterpiece Edition’s Classic mode lets you experience Myst the original way: hopping from pre-rendered node to node.
