Description

Alan Peat’s original sentence types are already used in schools in 22 different countries around the world. In 2013, in collaboration with Mathew Sullivan, 30 brand new sentence types were introduced. Now, these sentences are available as an app, which also includes direct links to both fiction and non-fiction writing, as well as teaching ideas, extension activities, and example sentences from teachers and pupils around the U.K.

‘A Second App of Exciting Sentences’ provides teachers and parents with 30 ‘consistent language’ sentence types, clearly explained and easily accessible on iPhone or iPad.

The app includes an introduction to, and an explanation of, the sentence types as a whole-school approach, both from the standpoint of an international literacy consultant, and of a full-time primary teacher.

Each sentence type is then introduced via a range of genre-specific examples, which could also be used in class. Coverage continues with an explanation of the grammatical features of each sentence, where and when they might be used, and how teachers might introduce them to pupils in the classroom. Teaching tips and genre links are provided for each sentence type, and ideas for extension work are also included.

Finally, the app allows users to make and save their own personal notes/lesson plans directly in-app. You can also back them up to Dropbox and email them directly from the app: two handy tools for networks of schools seeking to share ideas and planning!
