Description

Te Kākano Puāwai - ‘nurturing the seed to blossom’ - has been developed by the Ministry for Primary Industries (Manatū Ahu Matua) as a Māori engagement and training resource for our people to improve their understanding of and participation in Te Ao Māori (the Māori world).

This is an interactive mobile app our people can download to their smart devices to access information and knowledge we all need to become more culturally competent, so we can engage more effectively, and meaningfully incorporate Māori interests into our mahi (work). This app is also available to the public.

The app has unique Manatū Ahu Matua content such as the values, waiata, haka, and our taonga (treasures), to help us understand more about our identity, shared cultural heritage, and whakapapa (history).

Interactive features within the app include pronunciation of Māori words, mihimihi/pepeha (introductions), ngā mihi (greetings), poroporoaki (farewells), whakataukī (proverbs), and waiata (songs).

A key feature allows our people to input their own personal information to create a customised pepeha.
