Dots & Co is a brilliantly conceived puzzler, a matching game whose mechanics will be familiar to millions. And yet it feels different to other, rather more garish efforts in the genre. There’s a lovely art style throughout, and a minimal, calming vibe that chimes with the relaxing music and gentle sound effects.
Gameplay is simple: draw a line across dots of the same colour, both vertically and horizontally, to make them disappear. If you can draw these dots in square form, all of them will go. Some of them are covered with ice – so you have to draw a line across them more than once. In addition, each level has a limited number of moves, so it’s trickier than you think.
As you reach increasingly higher levels, you’ll unlock more exotic locations as well: forests, coasts, deserts and many more! True to its name, Dots&Co features companions to help you beat those challenging levels. You can count on a penguin, a reindeer or a bearded captain at any time and they can be powered up along the way by linking up the triangles scattered about the grid.
No matter how hard a level gets, there’s little to no sense of frustration when playing. Thanks to its pastel colour scheme and soothing background music, this is the kind of game that brings pure meditative joy.
