Sound or silence… which came first? Don’t worry, we’re not getting all philosophical on you. Merely setting the mood before delving into the majestic world of Ekko: Occlude the void.
In this level-based game, you’ll find yourself inside a beautiful music box. Your goal? To try and capture the grey and elusive Void to release sparks of colour and free the Guardian of the sound. Sounds cool, doesn’t it?
Part puzzle, part sensory experience: your logic and spatial skills are your closest allies in this unique environment.
Start with the coloured totems at your disposal. As you move them around the board, you’ll notice the Void moving tactically in the opposite direction. Engaging your best gaming wit, you’ll need to push the Void into the prison slot on the board. If you succeed, the colours hidden within the music box will pop up.
Now you’re ready for part two of your mission: drag the totems to the spots that have a matching colour. Be sharp and try your best to place them accurately on the correct twinkling location, and when you’re ready, push the handle on the music box. Play well and the Guardian of the sound will be released.
If you’re a fan of minimalist games, you’ll be captivated by Ekko’s challenging gameplay and magical atmosphere. But be warned – explore the augmented reality (AR) option carefully. You can easily become distracted by the mesmerising 3D landscapes.
“Building on ARKit was the perfect opportunity to explore the concept of a music box as a board game, giving the player other perspectives to experiment with”, says game designer Santiago Sotomayor from Colombian studio Mad Bricks.
So, will sound prevail over silence? It’s all up to you!
