His legacy inspired saint-poets such as Eknathand Tukaram, and he has been one of the foundations of the Varkari (Vithoba-Krishna) Bhakti movement tradition of Hinduism in Maharashtra. Sant Dnyaneshvar wrote Dnyaneshwari to enlighten the ordinary people about the secret of Bhagvad Gita through and language they would understand.
