Wage wacky turn-based warfare in this sequel to the classic strategy game. New troop classes offer all-new combat options, while a flexible card system lets you unleash special powers to enhance your squad’s abilities. Packing rich multiplayer mayhem, an explosive single-player campaign and endless quirky charm, it’s the best Worms yet.

Worms 3 - A delightful experience with a hint of frustration.

Worms 3 is a worthy addition to the come-one-come-all crazy fun earthen warfare game series, but it does have it's moments of frustration which come from being buggy and outright exploitable.

Firstly, the graphics and aesthetics. Beautiful. Simply beautiful. The game looks
better than ever and as soon as you get the ‘feel' on the movement of the worms, you will enjoy the heck out of the scenery. The worms jump slightly higher and longer than they did in Worms 2: Armageddon, so keep that in mind, when you are skipping over the levels. The control scheme has definitely changed. Instead of taping on the edge of the screen and taping/doubletaping on the worm to respectively walk or jump, the walking and jumping buttons are nicely arranged.

The negative things that come with the aesthetic side is the fact that aiming can
sometimes take forever. There is no good way to drag the sights - something the
developers might want to look into - and waiting for the sights to be in place, can be
frustrating. The second thing concerns the soundtrack. So far, the worms franchise has had a very ambient kind of a soundtrack, which reinforces the game. In worms 3, however, they decided to go with a melodic soundtrack, meaning that an about a minute long loop of music will play through the entire stage. To make matters worse, this one loop applies to every level of the same type of levels (the beach has only one theme, the sewers only one and so on and so on) so it gets very annoying very quickly. The beach theme is the worst, because it plays through training (from a gameplay perspective, the training was very nicely done!) and the first section of the campaign map, to the point I just turned off the sound altogether. While on the subject of sound, where did the voice packs go? There are only 14 voices available, so a DLC or a patch would be a welcome sight.

The two major new things introduced in this title are worm classes and cards, both
which tilt the game strategically in a very significant way. Worm class changes the health, resistance and behaviour of your worm, whereas cards give you a significant tactical advantage over the enemy. I know some people will be put off by this, because it complicates the game, but personally I like both changes.

Weapons have always been an important part of Worms and it's nice to see, Team
17 has stuck to it's roots when it comes to weapons. All the classics are present and a few ones have been added. It can be a bit difficult to tell how much damage a weapon will do because of the new classes system, but they do act in a predictable way – sometimes causing complete mayhem even amongst your own worms, which has always been a fun part of the game when hot-seating. Also the varying of weapons by levels is a fond sight to see.

However, some weapons are so overpowered, that they completely ruin the
experience. Namely Boggy B, for example, is a weapon that can reach anywhere and send the enemy worms flying half across the world. I actually won a campaign map by blasting one worm out of the map and two into the water in a place that should had been inaccessible otherwise. While this should had been fun, it actually left me with a feeling of disappointment. The game just feels stripped of challenge because of that one weapon. And the game does feel like it could be turned around 360 degrees just by throwing in a card or a superweapon.

There are some glitches that need to be looked into. Be it worms suddenly glitching
from one place to another or just ‘digging' into the ground until the turn ends (which I haven't still figured out if it's an idle animation or a glitch!?), the worst of the bugs could be classified as match-breaking. I wanted to end my campaign with a sheep and it did not explode. Just kept running and running and running until it reached the water. The interesting thing is that even the A.I. weapons seem to be buggy (the same sheep-thing happened with the A.I. in a quick game). Also I've had multiple occasions where the teleport just doesn't work or where you press 'fire' and your weapon doesn't shoot, but it's taken from your inventory nonetheless (I've had that happen 2 times now, so it's not common, but it does happen).

All in all, worms 3 is a worthy sequel, despite of the negative things I brought out,
they don't weigh up the positive. I've had many hours of fun with this one, I absolutely recommend it, get it while it's hot and enjoy another glorious adventure in the world of Worms!

Yours truly
