This simple yet wonderfully devious arcade game sounds straightforward: all you have to do is climb a tree. But Magic Bridge! soon bares its claws.
Inside the hollowed-out trunk of a giant oak, you’ll tilt a bridge that steadily rises. On it, your floofy kitten of choice will slide from side to side as you tap left and right to dodge hazards and collect coins.
The trick is to keep the bridge as level as you can, making small adjustments to squeeze through narrow gaps; snails with pointy shells line the walls, while rows of spiked balls force you back towards the middle.
You need to think a few seconds ahead, because your cat won’t start sliding until you steepen the angle. At first, it’s all too easy to overcompensate and tilt them into trouble. Luckily, the first hit will only stun your furry friend, but take another when they’re still recovering and it’s game over. Ten seconds might not seem like a long time, but it’s an agonising wait when the next set of hazards is approaching from above. Earn enough coins, and you’ll unlock a new cat. Some let you tilt the bridge quicker, while others slow the rate of your climb – it’ll take longer to progress, but you’ve more time to react to incoming hazards. And some will recover faster from being stunned, which can make a big difference. The danger ramps up quickly as you pass each checkpoint – get double figures and you’re doing pretty well – but if the fierce challenge of Magic Bridge! belies its cute looks, it remains as irresistible as its feline stars.
