Marbloid

Tilt & Tap to the Billion!

VIEW

Finally, the ‘90s MTV / marble-rolling / dotcom boom mash-up we’ve all been waiting for.

Marbloid’s weird look yet familiar play is right at the heart of its oddball appeal; it’s so strange that you keep playing just to see what goes down next.

This terrific marble-rolling game is awash with early ‘90s colour schemes.

And to do that, you’ll need to keep your marbloid moving along winding, undulating courses without rolling off. In another fittingly retro move, you tilt to guide your ball left and right – something that’s fallen out of fashion in recent years – and tap to jump over gaps.

Roll off the course into oblivion and it’s game over. If you ever had a PC crash on you in the ‘90s, you’ll feel a pang of recognition as the game dissolves into a familiar-looking blue screen of death.

It’s not just your marble-rolling skill that’s being tested, there’s some light ‘stick or twist’-type strategy here too. You can only claim rewards from meeting the game’s objectives by dropping your ball into the black holes you encounter regularly, which effectively ‘banks’ your run. Feeling confident? You can roll right past these black holes, but you’ll lose everything if you mess up the next section.

The tilt controls require a steady hand. And try not to get distracted by the odd visuals.

Marbloid is a surreal and surprising marble-roller with a unique look – it’s as if eighties arcade classic Marble Madness got the strangest possible makeover.
