Descripción
The Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need (IOTN) is a clinical index which is used to assess orthodontic treatment need. It has two components: the dental health component and the aesthetic component. In the United Kingdom, the IOTN is used to assess the need and eligibility of children under 18 years of age for National Health Service funded orthodontic treatment on dental health grounds.
The British Orthodontic Society “Easy IOTN” app is designed to help the whole dental team from dental students and dentists to nurses and therapists, become more familiar with the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need. There are two primary functions to the app. The first is that it is a simple guide to aid IOTN classification (including the use of the Aesthetic Component) and will therefore help dentists when referring patients to specialist orthodontists. The second is a series of professional development questions, which if completed will result in 1 hour of verifiable Continuing Professional Development (UK General Dental Council only). Please note that the app is free to download and use.
