Visitor Toll Pass 4+

There are still some problems to work through.

We signed up for the toll pass as it seemed to be very useful, especially to avoid hire car charges for the tolls.

On arrival at terminal B we looked around for the vending machines, found the return bin easily but vending machines were nowhere to be seen. On asking the airport information desk we were told that the vending machines were only in terminal A and we had to cross to the other side of the airport.

On leaving the airport we hung the tag from the rear view mirror but after arriving at our hotel we got an email saying the tag hadn’t been detected. I’m not sure if it was important for the tag to be placed barcodes facing forward or backward but the tag certainly didn’t make it clear which was the correct orientation.

After this I became so nervous about whether or not it was working I ended up avoiding toll roads whenever possible. Later we had to switch cars and I manually loaded the new number plate into the app. I was still nervous about whether or not it would work so I continued to avoid tolls until eventually I found a manned booth where the operator confirmed to me that it had registered correctly. However the very first toll from leaving the airport had been charged to the rental company who charged their additional fee.

To improve I feel that there needs to be more dispensing machines at the airport or the app should ask for a flight number when registering and instructing travellers who arrive at terminal B to go to terminal A. It would also be advisable to ask travellers to manually enter their license plate via the app once they have reached the hire car pick up or to ask the car hire exit booths to manually update the data base on exit. Finally some notification from the app when passing through tolls, as it stands you have no way of knowing whether the tag is charging you or your car hire company until a few days after the fact.
