IMPORTANT: If old or new widgets don't work, restart your device please.
If iOS removed the old widget after restart, re-add it: Go to the left of your home screen, scroll down, select "edit", scroll down again, select "Customise" and add iConnectHue.
This is an iOS bug we cannot circumvent.

This update is more or less 2-3 big updates in one - we're proud to present the best Home Widget available for Hue, and if this wasn't enough, we've extended Siri Shortcuts by quite an extent. In detail:

Home Widgets

We now support Home Widgets - and they put more functionality in available space than any other Hue widget! One small and one medium with the 2024 upgrade, or any number and large widgets via a Membership. They support every action of the classic Widget - and more:

* All Home Widgets sync via iCloud
* Place them anywhere you like on your Home screen
* Duplicate & Share them with family members (Membership)
* Multi action, up to 4 actions for one group - a new one per press (Pro)

We've polished the way you can add new things to your widget - this is free for everybody! You can access your list of widgets now directly from iConnectHue's menu.

It took a lot of effort to support Home Widgets, in addition we redesigned them.
They work vastly different from the old widgets, it was a almost miracle we could teach them to support all our actions. They won't always show the latest state, but iConnectHue will always switch right. Open the app or press the reload button in the middle to update them instantly.
(Available for every Member or w/ 2024 upgrade)

Pro Members will welcome the Multi Action Item - put up to 4 actions for the same group into it and step through them, like with the Hue Dimmer Hue button. This saves up to 75% space, and allows you complex actions even in a small widget.

IMPORTANT: If the old or new widgets don't appear, please restart your iOS device. It might be that iOS removes the old widget. In such a case add it again This is an iOS bug.
Also note that the classic widget is marked as "deprecated" since multiple years by Apple. It might happen that it will disappear with a future iOS update. Home Widgets require iOS 17, as this introduced interactive Widgets.

Siri Shortcuts

You can now create and edit shortcuts in the shortcuts app directly - with nice lists of what you can do and where.

The old way of doing things in the app and adding them as shortcut afterwards isn't available any longer, but you can still create shortcuts within iConnectHue via its menu.
(Available for every Member or w/ 2024 upgrade)

Note: If you get the error that something went wrong in the shortcuts app, please restart your device. This is a bug in iOS.

In addition to this, Pro Members get a new selection of possible shortcuts and actions:

* Change brightness of a group
* Toggle a Motion Sensor, Contact Sensor
* Turn a group on in 2 hour sun-adjusting daylight mode
* Set the color of a group via color code (see our Copy & Paste tutorial for possible codes)

Other detail improvements

* Try out the new things without purchase; Running new shortcuts and using Home Widgets though requires the appropriate purchase
* Toggle the Contact Sensor on/off from any widget (2024 upgrade)
* Pro: Improved color pasting can also pass brightness (see our Copy & Paste tutorial for possible codes)
* Contact sensor open state indicated via icon in device list
* Added support for new light types
* Several detail improvements - finders, keepers
* Fixes and stability improvements - yes, we also do that...

Note that some things might only be available in iOS 17, and we strongly recommend to update to the latest iOS version for everything to work properly.

Frustrating, complex and capable

To be honest, it has no competition. If you want to set up your Hue lights to do more than the Philips app lets you, this is it. But it is not easy and it is frequently frustrating.
Like the game of musical chairs when you need to repurpose a light and move it from room to room, but rooms can’t be empty and lights can’t be in two rooms. Or when you replace a bulb and need to redo every scene it has been involved in for every group it is in.

It’s capable and very deep but you pay for the depth with the hours you spend fixing things.

Hello password123, thank you for your review. To make your groups available for the Hue App, please create Zones. But to avoid confusion, we recommend to use only iConnectHue. Scenes are room/group specific because often the groups and lights are very different. For universal use we developed our Magic Scenes.
If Magic Scenes aren't what you're looking for: With version 4.1, we'll have a light migration wizard, which will allow you to replace lights automatically for most settings app-wide, including scenes.

App seems comprehensive, at a glance hard to tell how much you can do with it. Bought it after reading about ’Happy New Year’ animations in update info, quite a letdown that they cost extra.

We are happy to hear that you like our app.
Regarding the costs: we, as any other app developers, have to finance our app and our salaries. We've informed in the app introduction for new purchasers like you that it's a separate purchase, maybe this has been overlooked?
Contrary to the Hue app, we cannot cross-finance it by hardware sales. And we have also decided against selling your data or spamming you with adverts.
iConnectHue now exists since almost 8 years! Such a long time with constant updates and upgrades is not possible with the initial app purchase only. For those who do not have a membership, additional content is an in app purchase.
You are of course free to choose which ones you want to have, noone is forced to pay for features that are not needed, but if someone would like to have a bit more functionality can buy them.
This allows us to always offer you an app that is up-to-date, and also to add new features - quite a few of them for free!
In case of the new year animations, we had to tweak iConnectHue in several ways, which required testing and rolling out new features only to get this animation set ready for new year's eve. We think asking for a fair share of this and considering that it's MUCH cheaper than actual fireworks, yet it works as many times as you want is well worth its price.
