What’s New

Version 5.9.0

We are sad to announce that Jumbo will be winding down its operations. See more details in our blog post, available at withjumbo.com. The blog post contains details regarding your 2FA codes.

We leave you with one final poem:
While Jumbo has to say goodbye,
Please, there is no need to sigh.
Together we have made the world a safer place,
Jumbo stood up to hackers, face-to-face!
You made our dream possible, and for that we have no fear,
Because Jumbo’s spirit lives on: it is not far, it’s near!

Slows internet

I would give 5 stars if the vpn would not slow down the internet that much. Sometimes apps does not even refresh.

Developer Response ,

Hey there: I've been researching this specific issue the past week. I'm compiling a list of apps that our Tracker Blocker may interfere with as we investigate: Can you send me a note to support@Jumboprivacy.com and let me know? That will help the team a lot, we appreciate it.

App to stop tracking with a little more tracking

Closed source app to stop tracking with built in trackers enabled by default. Jumbo has great goal which I do appreciate. But… the app has no links to source code so it cannot be peer reviewed and there’s no proof that it is actually doing what it promises. The developer has clear privacy policy though 👌

The app does not ask you the permission to collect the ”anonymized” identifiers, it collects the data by default and it uses Amplitude for the tracking. Amplitude can be used to track you extensively if the developer wants so and Amplitude does not have privacy frienddly track record. In my opinion this could be easily fixed by either using something like Plausible or publishing the source code.

I can see this very helpful for non technical users, but all the things it recommends can be done without having Jumbo. I could see myself recommending this to others if the previous issues were fixed and the source code were available*. Currently it seems more like a well working proof of an concept which I would not use if I cared about my data staying secure. The issues I mentioned here do not make Jumbo insecure, but we cannot be sure what it really does.

* Even if the source code were available, I don’t see why would anyone want to rip off their idea since the current developer is te only one possible to gain the trustworthiness to publish tihis on AppStore. A clone could not be approved due to Apples rules and if they were approved why would anyone use it if the publisher were unknown or unverifiable.
