Join YLE's exciting 'Spring of migratory birds' campaign! Download the Research for JYU app on your smartphone, record bird songs and make bird observations – with the help of a supercomputer's AI, you can easily identify different bird species and contribute to cutting-edge research.

With this app, you have the opportunity to safely participate in various citizen science projects and help produce new research data. In the spring of 2023, the app focuses on tracking migratory birds, but there will be several research projects in the future.

Jyväskylä University respects individuals' personal information. We do not share users' personal information outside of the phone.

During the bird observation period, you can record short or long (interval) recordings. The recording and the user's location (precise or approximate) are transmitted with the recording to a server that identifies bird species from the recording. You will receive information about the identified species. In addition, your observation will appear anonymously on Yle's website. The app also keeps track of the bird species you have identified and allows you to earn virtual rewards that you can share on social media. This also enables friendly competition. Invite your friends to join in!

We are continuously developing the app. You can give feedback on the app's functionality through the app store. Our goal is to make the app as user-friendly as possible.
