Great game, no strings attached

I first played Stardew Valley on the PC. At the time, I didn’t really think it was for me so I refunded and uninstalled. Years went by and I was at a spot where I really wanted something cool to play that I can sink numerous hours in.

Enter Stardew Valley for iOS. Honestly I didn’t even know it existed, but when I came across it I thought, hey why not. Maybe I’ll enjoy it more this time.

The game is what it says on the tin. Full-sized game, pretty close to the PC version, works like a charm. No micro transactions, no BS, just the game and nothing extra. On top of that I discovered that you can actually swap save files from the PC version to the iOS version and vice versa, which made me buy the PC version as well so I can play at home with my preferred platform and on mobile when I’m commuting or during breaks at the office. I only hope that this process could be made automatic somehow, but for now there is a wiki to help with the process and it’s pretty through.

The controls also have a few flaws. I enjoy using the joypad and two buttons, but the accuracy of the joypad isn’t that great. Trying to have the character face down or up is next to impossible and since the inventory is on the left hand side, I keep selecting items by accident. That requires some work and maybe some tweaks in the UI, but it’s a small grievance since the touch based controls work pretty good as well.

All in all, it’s money well spent based on how much fun and enjoyment it brings. We need more games like this on the mobile, that give you what they promise and that’s all. But for now, I’m happy to give this game my full support and love. Keep up the good work!

Simply excellent

A great game for either a quick 5 minute gaming session or for those 12 hour flights. The game is quite open-ended, so relies on your own interests and input, which is perfect for me: somedays when I feel slightly lethargic I spend simply cutting away trees and some more energetic ones I quest like there is no tomorrow. Definitely recommend!

An iconic game and so good on the ipad!

Great that you can play with a controller, but it seems the controls aren’t fully fleshed out. For instance, you can’t see the pointer hand in the inventory to know what item you’re pointing at and also the cursor which you have in the Nintendo Switch version isn’t there to open the journal etc.
