GAME
OF THE
DAY
Beholder 2
Story-rich multi-ending game
Stop right there, citizen! Did you remember to sing your patriot songs today? What about saluting the statue of our Wise Leader?
Beholder 2 will satisfy your cravings for logic puzzles, time management and dystopian intrigue all in one, which is not something you can say for a lot of games.
You take on the role of a new government worker in a country ruled by a brutal dictatorship. It’s set in the ’80s, so everything has an appropriately lo-fi feel, and the stylised black-and-white art only adds to the air of unease.
Your day job is to deal with citizens who come to the government, sending them to the correct meeting room depending on what they’ve come to say, and the topic it’s on. Fill your daily quota – and make your decisions correctly – and you’ll get on fine. Probably.
The trouble is that at the same time, players must investigate the mysterious death of their father, make friends with colleagues, report to a double agent, solve various problems… and still make time to watch TV in the evenings.
The smart story, intuitive touchscreen controls and constant air of menace all add up to somehow make Beholder 2 a true delight to play – even if you may end up a little paranoid.
