Description

The mission of Accenti Magazine is to document the evolution of the Italian-Canadian experience and disseminate its expression through the publication of literary and creative works. Accenti also aims to act as a conduit for dialogue among its readers and contributors.

Accenti commissions content and accepts unsolicited material from established as well as emerging Canadian writers and artists. Accenti also seeks to partner with other organizations operating in the cultural sphere to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Accenti Magazine was launched online in November 2002. Accenti in print was launched in March 2003 and remained in publication until December 2014, during which time 31 print issues were published. All issues were printed on high-gloss paper, in colour, measuring approximately 8 by 10 inches (later, perfect-bound, issues measured 9 by 11 inches), and ranging from 36 to 52 pages. The content of print issues was simultaneously posted on Accenti Online. Over 1000 items (and counting) (90% by more than 200 Canadian contributors) in the form of photographs, illustrations, and articles are contained on the Accenti Online archive. Focused on artistic and literary expression from an Italian-Canadian perspective, Accenti appeals to English-speaking Italophiles around the world.

Accenti has been the recipient of numerous grants by the Canada Magazine Fund and Canada Periodical Fund since its founding in 2002, for more than CDN $250,000 cumulatively.

Accenti Magazine invites unsolicited articles, photographs, and cartoons for publication, and pays a nominal honorarium upon publication of accepted submissions.

In 2005, Accenti launched the Accenti Writing Contest. In 2007, it launched the “Capture an Italian Moment” Photo Contest. In 2019 it launched the Accenti Poetry Contest. Each contest invites submissions for original and unpublished works and offers a top prize of $1000, three runner-up prizes of $100, and publication in Accenti. Participants in the Accenti contests must pay an entry fee.

These very popular initiatives together generate hundreds of entries each year, attracting established professionals as well as emerging artists whose exposure through Accenti has helped them build on their artistic profile.

Since their inception, the Accenti contests have awarded nearly $40,000 in prizes to worthy writers, poets and photographers.

Accenti offers limited free access to its online content. Users can read five articles per month for free. Unlimited access is offered for a subscription fee of CDN $5.75 per month or CDN $57.50 per year.

The Accenti Shop sells paper books, and back issues of paper magazines, as well as digital back issues of magazines, and e-books.

Accenti publishes a bi-monthly e-newsletter to registered users. There is no fee to register to receive the e-newsletter.

According to Google Analytics, Accenti enjoys an average of 2350 visitors per month.
