The problem with board games is that they don’t all feature a roster of fantasy characters clobbering each other with magic and big swords.
Fortunately that’s not an omission you need to worry about in Chess Rush, a fast and fantastic strategy battle game. Each tournament you play takes place online, against seven other players. Your challenge is to be the last one standing.
Because this is an auto battler, you don’t have to worry about controlling your soldiers directly, as fights happen automatically. Instead, you must strategically place your units on the giant chess board, hoping to outmanoeuvre your opponent.
Units can be from one of many different classes and races, and you get bonuses for playing several of the same class at once. You can also upgrade your little soldiers, making them more fearsome. Even though it’s top down and everything’s miniature, Chess Rush is colourful and detailed – so it’s easy to get a feel for how each battle is going. You’ll quickly learn whether you favour Elves, Beasts or the watery Oceanborn. And, as the name suggests, Chess Rush is fast paced, so the excitement never abates. With a thriving community, a comprehensive chat function and ways to add friends, you need never feel lonely at the top. Even between matches, there’s plenty to keep you occupied. There are daily quests and rewards, special events to take part in, and heroes to study. So go ahead. Make your move!
