About this App

Birds of Africa is an identification guide which in time will cover all the birds and countries in Africa. This version includes more than 1,800 species and has all West African and 8 East African countries. It was developed as an aid to conservation and is an asset of The African Bird Club.

Great, but so much to improve

This app is a complete guide of birds of Africa, with per country lists to be downloaded.

It is great but there is so much to be improved.

First and foremost it provides pictures, not drawings, which is ok in many cases but next to useless for e.g. birds of prey or see birds which are rarely shown in flight, which is how they are seen most often.

The « in range » feature is very useful but it assumes one is already on site, one cannot use it to prepare a trip. It should be possible to specify the coordinate.

Sightings list is meant to record sighting done here and now. It is not possible to change location, nor the date (for example when confirming an ID from picture when back from a trip).

The thumbnails are much too small. If one has no idea what is the bird just seen, it is impossible to find. I would have loved to have pages with e.g. 6 species each to browse through.

Great on field but useless once back

Really good free app with good pics and sounds, good texts and maps. Thank you so much !! On field it is so great to have it alongside books. But as I’m back, back up doesn’t work and export to get all our personal data seems not to have been imagined yet ! Recordings with this app not recommended.
