Frustrating iPad Experience - Needs Major UI Overhaul

The orthoplay app for controlling Teenage Engineering's OB-4 speaker is disappointingly poorly optimized for iPad users. While functional, the app's interface is clearly designed for smartphones, resulting in a frustrating experience on larger tablet screens.

The most glaring issue is the app's orientation and scrolling. On a 12.9-inch iPad, the interface is locked in a portrait mode, forcing users to scroll horizontally extensively through what should be a single-screen interface. This scrolling feels unnatural and wastes the iPad's generous screen real estate. Instead of adapting to the larger display, the app presents a stretched-out phone interface, making navigation cumbersome and inefficient.

Basic features like landscape mode are inexplicably absent, which is particularly puzzling for an audio control application that could benefit from a wider, more accessible layout. The app's minimalist aesthetic, while visually appealing, sacrifices usability on larger screens.

While the app does provide essential functionality for controlling the OB-4, including access to its unique features and firmware updates, the user experience falls short of what one would expect from Teenage Engineering. The infrequent updates and lack of in-app support options further compound the frustration.

Teenage Engineering urgently needs to redesign the app with iPad users in mind, optimizing the layout to take full advantage of the larger screen and eliminating the need for excessive scrolling. Until these improvements are made, users will likely find the orthoplay app to be a weak link in an otherwise innovative product ecosystem.
