Description

The See and Learn Language and Reading bundle includes all six of our See and Learn Vocabulary and See and Learn Phrases apps.

See and Learn Vocabulary 1, 2 and 3 are designed to teach children with Down syndrome a spoken (or signed) vocabulary totalling 154 words commonly learned at this early stage of language development.

The See and Learn Vocabulary apps teach new vocabulary with simple matching, selecting and naming activities of varying complexity using clear pictures that play to the children’s relative strengths in visual processing.

See and Learn Phrases 1, 2 and 3 are designed to teach children with Down syndrome to read, understand and say simple two-keyword phrases using vocabulary taught in the See and Learn Vocabulary 1, 2 and 3 steps.

The See and Learn Phrases apps introduce sight words and phrases in simple themed books. The apps offer activities to practice matching, selecting and reading individual sight words, and to test the children’s understanding of sight words and of phrases using word-to-picture and phrase-to-picture matching activities.

Together, the See and Learn Vocabulary and See and Learn Phrases apps teach 154 early words, 81 sight words and 132 phrases, helping young children with Down syndrome acquire a firm foundation in early language and literacy skills.

When to start

See and Learn Vocabulary 1 is designed for children who are ready to learn their first words. They should be showing an understanding of objects and what they do, and may be attempting to communicate by babbling or using simple gestures.

Many children with Down syndrome will be ready to start these activities from about 18 months of age. See and Learn Vocabulary 1 can also be used with older children who are not yet saying all of these words - even if they understand some of them.

Children can start See and Learn Phrases 1 when they have completed See and Learn Vocabulary 1. At the same time, they can continue learning new vocabulary with See and Learn Vocabulary 2.

Please refer to our web site for full lists of the vocabulary, sight words and phrases taught in these apps, and for guidance about when to start each step.
