In his #1 New York Times bestseller, 10% Happier, ABC news anchor Dan Harris explores how his on-air panic attack in 2004 prompted him to search for a better way to deal with the voice in his head and be less yanked around by his emotions. Spoiler alert: he found meditation.

About the 10% Happier podcast:

In his top-ranking podcast, Dan talks with smart people about whether there's anything beyond 10%. The podcast explores whether you be an ambitious person and still strive for enlightenment and inner peace.

What Does Progress Look Like, by Jay Michaelson

As of this moment, I still don’t know where my wallet is.

I’m pretty sure that by the time you read this, I will have found it. But as I’m writing these words, I have no [expletive] idea where my [expletive] wallet is.

Maybe the baby put it somewhere. Maybe I put it somewhere so the baby couldn’t get it. I don’t know. All I know is that I was almost late to my meeting with Dan Harris because I couldn’t get out of the house. Dan Harris!

This is what it’s like in the middle of the meditation road. I’m actually no longer upset about the wallet, after a 45-minute subway ride, a cold brew coffee, and a decent amount of mindfulness practice on the train. And I didn’t say anything sharp to my partner (or my daughter) as I ran around the house in a tizzy. This is what progress looks like.

Still, there was the tizzy. And, for good measure, a good ten or fifteen minutes more tizzy-ness after leaving (with my partner’s Metrocard and my passport instead of my license).

I’m sharing this with you because, a lot of times, it’s hard to notice the progress we’ve made toward being wiser, saner, happier, and calmer people when there’s still so far to go. And yet, I’ve been doing this meditation thing long enough to know progress when I see it...

Absolutely brilliant

I consider myself qualified to rate this app as I have probably tried more methods than most to crack meditation. This is my 3rd meditation app, I have done two online courses, signed up to countless 30 day guided introductions, read more than probably 10 books on the subject, been to workshops and mini retreats .... you get the picture. But in all of the various teachings I have come across before it has never been explained in such a beautifully simple way as by Joseph Goldstein aided by Dan’s illuminating questioning. Don’t miss the essentials with Joseph. Now I finally get how life changing meditation can be. Thank you Joseph and than you Dan for putting together this wonderful resource.

Meditation for beginners course.

I don’t like the way this course automatically and charges you in full after a free period without any further consultation within the period of the free trial.

To cancel and get your refund after 14 days is not a financially justifiable way of proceeding. As a result it has so annoyed me I have cancelled my subscription seeking a return of my £85. Until Apple sorts this practice out, I will withdraw my facility of paying because I’m feeling the whole activity is prone to fraudulent activity.

They should be asking as to whether they can take money from your iTunes account. A much more polite more likely successful route would be to have a click through to continue if the product was any good? Not to say I haven’t enjoyed some of the communication but if it is just a method of selling you more after taking £85 from your bank account then I think this should be changed so as not to ensnare the customer with Added stress and anxiety.

Hi Rocky131070 - thanks for taking the time to share your feedback on your experience and sorry to hear of the trouble you had in the free trial period. If you haven't already resolved this, please email us at for assistance with the refund process. Wish you the best! Joshua@10%

Best meditation app around

I think this app is the most practical of all the various ones around whilst also still maintaining the essential spiritual element of meditation, but without either factor being exclusionary for those who come down more on one side than the other. It is the first time some of the processes have truly sunk in for me on a deeper level and therefore had a hugely beneficial impact on my practice. Love it and look forward to using it each day 💖
Only slight criticism is around the price point - one of the most expensive ones around, whilst I realise quality comes at a cost, it can mean this is much less accessible for those on lower incomes.
