Description

Start new musical ideas with a curated selection of sounds and effects. Play beats and melodic parts, sample your world, and continue your tracks in Ableton Live.

Note is a place to form ideas, experiment with sounds and find direction. Get your ideas out or play until inspiration hits using a selection of Ableton Live’s drum kits, synths and melodic instruments. Or create your own sound palette by recording the sounds around you into Note’s sampler instruments using your phone’s microphone.

If you want to take your ideas further, use Ableton Cloud to send your projects to Live (version 11.2.5 or later) without leaving the app. Open your project from Live’s browser, then keep working – you can edit all your MIDI notes, and all your samples and sounds from Note are exactly the same.

Begin with a beat:
• Choose from 56 Drum Sampler kits
• Tap out a beat using the 16-pad grid
• Quantize your beat to fix any loose timing
• Nudge notes to correct mistakes
• Add more layers of rhythm
• Create beat repetitions with Note Repeat
• Change parameters to shape your sound
• Experiment with effects

Start with a melody:
• Choose from 261 synth sounds and 36 Melodic Sampler instruments
• Play your melody or chord progression with either the 25-pad grid or the piano roll
• Set a key and scale to get instantly harmonic results, or leave your options open
• Overdub more layers of harmony
• Change parameters to shape your sound
• Add effects to experiment with sound design

Sample your environment:
• Create your own kits by recording percussive sounds into Note’s Drum Sampler
• Record tonal sounds to create your own Melodic Sampler instruments
• Manipulate your samples by cutting, filtering or repitching them
• Shape or transform your sounds with effects

Capture improvisations:
• Play something, then tap the Capture button to keep it
• Play at the tempo that feels comfortable and Note will detect it
• Note will recognize the length of the phrase
• A loop is created automatically
• Quantize it, add to it, or change the sound

Create variations:
• Note features a grid-based Session View layout
• Double your loops to create variation within clips
• Duplicate your clips and create different versions of your ideas
• Create eight tracks with up to eight clips on eight scenes
• Try different layer combinations and song structures
• Export your work in Session View as an audio file to listen and share

Awesome, looking forward to see how it develops

As someone who is just getting back into production in live, for the small price this app was a no brainier to try out. Having used a few other groove box type apps I can safely say that this app is leagues above in terms of features, especially for such a minimal price. The ability to continue my projects on the desktop or push is brilliant and I’m looking forward to see how this app develops. I can see why this app has made it to number two in the music app charts.

As somebody who is about to delve into the world of push standalone, I have been daydreaming of other ways to integrate a touchscreen with the device and thought how awesome it would be to have an app which can act as an extra controller and interface for clearer visual feedback and also making arranging and automation drawing easier. This combination would blow all other standalone DAW/groovebox options out of the water! And from what I imagine this would be really easy to implement and and could be used on any touch device meaning probably just about every push standalone user would buy it and would even encourage the adoption of push standalone by those who may have been on the fence about it.
Great stuff ableton ! Big up ya chests !

Good for drums and sampling but synths could be better

I really love putting an idea down for a rhythm using the drum kits or sampling and works great when switching to live using Ableton cloud. Although synths can be hit or miss depending if your lucky and a sound fits well. If there was a basic version of wavetable added in the future this app would be perfect and maybe being able to import a selection of samples from live would allow a user to use a lot of the same sounds they’re used to using.
Overall though I think this is a step in the right direction and could really influence how people use live in a significant way aslong as the app is consistently improved with new features along with Ableton cloud.

Man with migraine ,

Great - A really solid start.

Update:
Still really good. However, I know it’s a sketch pad, but they REALLY need to sort out the sequencer (visual grid and better quantise snapping). Then it’ll be perfect. 👍

——————-
It’s great, but it needs a lot of work on the editor. Such as: - A visual grid to place notes (depending on quantise). - The ability to add notes (like a step sequencer). - the ability to draw the length of notes. - The ability to change the velocity of notes. Other people have mentioned slicing (warping would be better) of audio loops. I’d second that too. All in all, a really solid start. Definitely a must have if you own Live. How much I’ll use it (and how much it inspires me to use Ableton) depends on how much they develop the editor. I really hope this is only the beginning.
