The About face app contains five different activities designed to teach children to recognise emotions from facial expressions. The app was developed by psychologists at the University of Bristol for educational professionals to use in a classroom setting. However it may also be used by parents with children at home.
Activities include labelling emotions, matching emotions, and remembering emotions. The app uses realistic computer-generated faces of various ages and ethnicities. An interactive slider lets you change the intensity of the emotional expression to see how it unfolds on the face. Difficulty level can be altered to suit the individual child, and written and optional spoken feedback is provided.
