One of a kind

I’ve been playing this game for over a year, had to redownload due to the amazing animations, great plots and hint system. The developers definately hit the nail on the head with the detective Kate series and I’ve just completed all of them and are by far my favourite and I’m thinking of purchasing the homecoming exclusive. A couple of my other favourites include the covenant and haunted house; really creative and a decent level of thriller too not to mention the variety of puzzles and games keeps it interesting, it’s always exciting to see a new addition to the games. A lot of people are critical of the key system but I honestly think it is a great approach; not only do you have to pace yourself after completing chapters meaning you’re not spending hours on screentime, it allows you to try any game and if it’s not your thing, you can use your next key to unlock a different game. Whilst it may require patience for some people, I’m sure most people can agree it is a lot better than completing half a story and realising that the other half is locked until you become a member.
Only thing I would change is advise the writers to stick to what they know as that’s what they write best one example is the context/ background of sultans inventor seems like a confused mishmash of 3 different cultures primarily south Asian and middle eastern and became less engaging than detective Kate for example.
Definately one of the best on the app store, do give it a try!

Love the game, hate the keys

I’ve been playing Haiku games for years. There’s nothing else like them. They’re brilliant. I love the games. I will always love the games. I will also, however, always *hate* the key system. It completely eliminates all the tension which has built up to that point. I now play because I need some mild entertainment, not because I’m desperate to know how the game ends. The key system has taken a lot of the fun out of these games for me. Honestly, if you just made it a paid game, that would be better, rather than this ‘you can play the whole thing for free!’ bit which would more accurately be ‘you can play the whole thing for free, but only in fifteen to forty minute chunks’. You can’t actually play ‘the whole thing’ for free. You can play part of it, once or twice a day, because you have a life and you’re not setting a timer to let you know when the keys refresh. Of course the developers need to get paid, so just put a price tag on the game already and have done with it. Or add a ‘make a donation’ button, if you want to keep it free but enable people to give you money. The key system really is the worst of all possible worlds.

Hello Anne-Mhairi! We understand the keys slow down the experience. We decided it's the best way to support our company. The game is free, and the keys regenerate every few hours for free. If you choose to purchase keys to play faster, it'll help us make more games. Thanks for playing!

Keys? Seriously!!?

Having played all the Haiku games, I have to say they’ve definitely made me an avid fan!
And I’ve said for a long time, that the games are good enough that people WILL pay for them. And tbh I don’t see why they haven’t implemented a cost by now, besides the stars of hint. You may have a small sect of players that will purchase the stars to help them with their puzzle. But I reckon the majority will just go on Appunwrapper for free!! Customers like the motto ‘Pay once, Play forever’. Once it’s bought and paid for, you/your kids/family can all play it and REplay it as much as they like.
This FARCE with the keys.......... Isn’t going to allow any of that.
It basically means you can’t just play the game on your own time when you get that time. It means the diplomat behind the curtain is giving us all time outs, and gives us the game back when we’ve settled down. I do it with my children. They get to play their games for so long before I take it off them, so they focus on doing other stuff. But being the grown up means ‘Do as I say, not as I do’. And I certainly don’t expect someone to tell me to go focus on other stuff because I’m not allowed to play this for so many hours. Use the old program method and charge for the games!!!! Much simpler.
