Ampere - battery charge info 4+

So far so good

Appears to be a precise tool. No complaints. Not sure about what the “bundled” software is or how to get it without paying again but I bought it for the charging comparator and the charged alarm which work perfectly.

Does not work - misleading app description

I have an iPad Pro 2nd gen and I just bought this app to measure the charging amperage so that I can select the best charger and cable. It loads up fine, and to test the amperage it says that it should take max 10 mins.

First of all, it doesn’t do anything for over 1 hour (and yes I pressed the button to start the test)

Second, it was not clear in the app details on the App Store that it takes 10mins to work out the amperage. Also, I guess that the amperage is calculated based on time, battery percentage and battery capacity. So this is a mathematical estimate rather than a sensor reading, which I would want to know before I paid to use this app.

I bought an amp measuring dongle instead, which will give me real time accurate data.

I read the developer’s response. I understand why the app had to change its testing method. I would suggest to make that clear in the app description. If it was, then I would not have purchased it. Also, I tried the testing with many chargers and cables, including Apple’s own. I left it to run for over 30mins and it never gives a result.

I sympathise with with the developer for the way he was treated by Apple, but I don’t think that I should pay for that.

Thank you for the update. It would be the first time that I know of that the app did not gave any result back. Could you please let me know few things : what percentage is your battery at when you try to start the test? Also, is there a charging indicator on the device battery on the top right when you start the test? Also, I assume , it’s a wired test? What is the charger used?

Regarding the method - it produces pretty accurate results. We have enterprise clients that use our app to test their chargers and wires. They confirmed that the results are almost identical to the numbers they were getting with hardware methods.
I want to make sure that you app works like intended, and that’s why I will need to have your answers on the questions above.

Thank you for the review. Since iOS 10 and up, there are no access to sensors for developers. The only way left is to use calculations based on capacity and time. As for the long time - what was your battery at when you ran the battery charge test? Usually if you are not getting the results quick enough- means your charger is too slow. Way too random and unreliable.

I used to trust this, but recently its just giving random test results.
Either all my devices, cables, PSU’s etc have become faculty, or the amp is just not doing what it’s supposed to. Testing 3 times gives huge differences on my iPad Pro 2017 and iPhone XS Max. Each test drops but up to a 3rd of the the previous test. After 3 consecutive tests my 30watt Apple charger went from 25watts, down to 5watts...apparently. This is happening with at least 3 high powered USB C chargers/cables that do actually fast charge fine.

Update.
Please stay below 70% of charge during the tests, and also make sure to turn off temporarily "Optimized battery charging" option, that is now on by default on all iOS devices. Its available via settings->battery-> Battery health. It is a great function that should be on at all times, unless you are running tests. It will slow down or even completely stop your battery charging if it feels that its more optimal for your device.

Please let me know how that will work.
