Description

** NOT FULLY SUPPORTED ON IPOD TOUCH: SEE NOTE BELOW
** IPAD USERS: SEE NOTE BELOW

Take the guesswork out of aligning and tuning your Freeview aerial in the UK and Ireland by using Antenna Aligner.

With just a single click, Antenna Aligner will show you where to point your aerial, and which channels to focus on when fine tuning.

It's really no more difficult than that, and it doesn't need an internet connection!

Antenna Aligner provides a list of transmitters to select, and these are chosen based on their calculated signal strength at your current location.

It currently supports all Freeview transmitters in the UK and Ireland.

*** IPOD TOUCH - IMPORTANT *** Ipod touch devices do not have the compass hardware, so the compass view in the app will not work. However, the list of transmitters with the bearing will still work.

*** IPAD - IMPORTANT *** WIFI only Ipad devices do not have GPS. Therefore, depending on the type of Internet connection available, the GPS system in the oapp may not work. In these cases the location can be specified using postcode.

*** Jersey / Channel Islands *** the postcode function is unlikely to work due to the data not being available for these areas. GPS will continue to work fine on supported devices.

3G or 4G Ipads will work with this app as they have the GPS chip.

Magnetic covers can affect the compass hardware, if you experience problems with the compass, try removing the case. This is nothing to do with this app.

Brilliant App!

It's a pity some folk have had problems with this app. I'm a caravanner and whenever I go away, have trouble aligning our unidirectional freeview aerial. It's a ten year old van, and the circular omnidirectional boosted aerial on the roof often has trouble pulling in all freeview UHF channels, particularly if the polarisation is vertical. In any case, there aren't always any other unidirectional aerials for reference on campsites. So I was contemplating the purchase of a signal strength meter, but found AntennaAligner on the App Store. I thought I'd give it a try as it was very reasonably priced, and I'm glad I did. The app used my iPhone 6 GPS to determine my location, and gave me a choice of the nearest transmitters, together with the quality, and polarisation (horizontal or vertical) of each one. The compass worked perfectly for me, (there are some app notes about the compass worth reading) and gave me the correct direction in which to point the aerial. I then auto-tuned my Freeview TV, and it picked up all channels.
For me, this is a brilliant app and will be extremely useful on our travels.

Amazing app

Just bought a house in Cornwall. Set up a booster for the existing aerial located in the loft. Was well impressed to come down, scan the tv and see almost 200 services found. Result, I thought. I found that the receiver my aerial was picking up from is in Wales. Realised this quite quickly when we were able to watch S4C instead of C4. No offence, I love Wales, but I don’t speak Welsh, and we ideally want to pick up news programmes etc for the area we’re now living inz Anyway I looked online for info / solution. I came across this app, I was sceptical because of some negative reviews, BUT, it really is the best £2.99 I’ve spent in a long while. After downloading it I went back up into the loft with my phone. I moved my aerial almost 180 degrees to line it up to another transmitter just as the app showed me. Repeated as before, came down to scan the TV. And Bosh, similar amount of services found, and now as it should be, English (South West). One very happy customer, keep up the good work 👍

Developer Response ,

Thank you for the review! Most of the negative reviews could be sorted out by contacting me, as most are as a result of device related problems. But thanks for taking a chance, and happy viewing.

Really useful app for caravaner

We regularly travel around going to different sites and have on many an occasion struggled to get a tv signal. Usual story of arrive on site, try and match the direction everyone else was pointing and hope for the best. On the day I bought this app I had reached the end of tether. I was not receiving a decent signal but everyone else was. I appeared to be pointing the right way. With the app I verified I was slightly off direction, but more importantly it became really obvious that I had not noticed most of the other aerials were using a different polarisation! Doh.... anyway, since having the app I have never had a problem and setup is really quick and easy. Highly recommended.
