super cool

so...you may be sceptical of some reviews because they could be written by bots or the creators of the app. but trust me when i say that i genuinely cannot recommend this app enough ? i think the widget aspect is really cool so that you can see the words when you open your phone,, but they also send you notifications <not too invasive or annoying> which tell you new words and it’s really helpful.

i was worried that some of the words would be way too difficult for me but after completing a short test at the beginning,, they gauged my level of vocabulary and the words they’ve taught me so far are useful and relevant.

there is the premium feature,, but you don’t even need to pay for that to enjoy this app to a good extent. i’m not paying but i still feel as though i am really benefiting from the free version.

i think you should give this app a try !! i’m incredibly happy that i discovered it. goodluck with your learning journeys ! :]

Good concept but it’s yet another app with a pay barrier

I love the concept of this app, however it’s just another one of those apps that only lets you do one thing unless you pay for more. This is an increasing trend on the App Store and it’s unfair for people who want to learn but can’t afford it. I understand that developers need to make money too but education on the App Store is becoming increasingly inaccessible to more and more people. Every single app I download nowadays only grants access to limited things and hides the rest behind a premium subscription. It’s a shame because I really was excited to improve my vocabulary using this app.

The app mixes up synonyms and antonyms of word usages

The app mixes up synonyms and antonyms of the primary and secondary usages of some words.

E.g. Pious; devoutly religious. Synonyms: insincere, hypocritical, sanctimonious.

The above synonyms (words with similar meanings) are actually antonyms (words with opposite meanings) of the word Pious in its usage as “devoutly religious”.

However they are synonyms of the words secondary usage, which is, “making or constituting a hypocritical display of virtue.”

An odd feature of these mistakes is that they are peculiarly prejudice in their choice. If this was simply an error in the coding, which resulted in the app being unable to distinguish between primary and secondary usages of words, you would expect this to happen with all words that had more than one usage. Secondly, you would expect a mix of synonyms from the primary and secondary usage, such as: sincere, hypocritical, devoted, insincere. However, this is not the case.

This makes these errors seem more concerning, because they have an apparently prejudice bent.

This is something apple should investigate, as they are allowing the app on their store.

I would avoid.

Developer Response ,

Hello. Thanks for your review. The mistake you reported has been fixed immediately after you reached out to us and communicated to you via e-mail. It is impossible that prejudice was involved since this was a software glitch specific to one word. We hope that this eliminates your doubts.
