Description

Aweigh has been initially designed for use on and around the Norfolk Broads.

Thousands of people enjoy the UK waterways throughout the year. Aweigh is here to support the public when help is needed, whether for health and safety or to report incidents in these beautiful environments.

Now in 5 sections, it is designed to provide the user with valuable information whilst on and around the water.

Mapping and Speed
The mapping element of the application shows the user their current location and speed they are traveling. This can be especially useful for users that are unsure of their speed and can help protect the local wildlife and avoid a large fine of thousands of pounds.
A new addition to this section shows free mornings, electric charge points, slipways and cranage and bridge pilot information

Explore
The newest of our sections allows the public to look at their journey ahead and see local attractions and businesses that await them. This section is currently in early stages, so we are looking for businesses to list in the directory for a small fee and help the aweigh app remain free for the public to use.

Tides
See the current tide status for your location. Ability to select any other listed tide location.
Sunrise and sunset times for that day.

Help
Crucial numbers in case of emergency. The Help page gives users one click call options for the emergency services, broads authority or Environment agency. Report incidents or call for help.
See your current Longitude and Latitude values to pass to the emergency services to pinpoint your location.
What 3 Words generates a unique 3 word reference that pinpoints people to a 3m x 3m grid square anywhere on the planet.

Very useful app but speed display inconsistent.

I have been using the app for the last week on the northern Broads. I haven’t been able to find an alternative which is anything like as useful. However the speed readout needs some attention as, for example, a speed of around 4mph will fluctuate wildly from 0 to over 6, making the 2 decimal places somewhat irrelevant! It would be useful to be able to zoom and rotate the map as another reviewer has mentioned. This is unique and really useful app so I do hope that it will be developed further.

Thank you for your positive feedback. We have been collecting other customer feedback and are looking to implement some enhancements, including your suggestions to the map in future versions.

Rubbish for time tides

Had to time it properly to go over Breydon water and we ended up having broads authority boat telling us we had to turn around because it was high tide when the app told us it was low tide and we couldn’t get under the bridge. Had to cancel a booking a tackle with a pub too. The app gave 3 different times for low tide on 3 different phones. Will never use this app for this again. We have never got it wrong before when using an information map for the broads

Updated after developer response: we have been going on the broads for years so know about how the tides work. But we checked the app immediately after crossing breydon water to double check the so called low water times again and it was saying on one phone the water was lowering on the other two phones it was saying it was highering. The times of the low tide were all different. So it is not a case of misunderstanding the app like it has just been claimed by the developer. Fair enough, the app might work very well usually but it certainly didn’t yesterday and I find it highly insulting that it’s suggested it can’t be wrong and we are amateurs when actually I am quite efficient with anything like this.

Thank you for your feedback.

Users should always ensure that the correct date for tides is selected and we advise to check the times for the location you need tide times for.

Whilst moving around on the rivers, the app detects the tide times for your location.

Tides on the Norfolk broads can vary up to 5 hours between high and low tides depending on location.

The Police and Yacht stations all use the Aweigh app for accurate tidal information and we have had no issues reported in the last 18 months since launch.

Please kindly review your 1 star rating as there is a clear misunderstanding on how to use the app or understand the Norfolk broads tide systems.

Apologies, no offence was meant.

Last thing we recommend is restarting the app, as running constantly in the background may cause old tide data to cache.

Too many glitches

Been using this app almost all week, unfortunately there are too many problems with it. I lost count how many times the speed either randomly froze or just said speed was 0.0 when I was actually moving ( this would be while it was actively tracking my location so proves that the app had not lost gps signal). There were also times where tide info would be displayed correctly but would then say tide rising when it was still before low tide or tide was falling when we still had not reached the high tide time.
When you consider that these are the primary functions of the app, you would expect them to either work properly or have accurate data. I resorted to using printed out charts and info that I did at home before we left for our holiday and then guessed my speed for the week. Such a shame as this could be a very useful app
